I think this should be discussed elsewhere, billy might start crying  Cry if we talk about this here, he would have a point as its off topic.

Fuck! That brought tears to my eyes too!

My brother was round today and we both said the same thing - this is the first time in my life I can truly say I am proud of my Egyptian heritage and I am so proud of the Egyptian people.

On the news they were saying that the secret police and other security elements (controlled by the interior ministry) were behind the looting and stuff to cause mayhem kinda like it was in Tunisia (there they tried to take the army on) in the article below I read that ex-cops that are addicts are the thugs behind the looting, anyone know about this?

    Quote
They were brave, largely peaceful, these tens of thousands, but the shocking behaviour of Mubarak's plainclothes battagi – the word does literally mean "thugs" in Arabic – who beat, bashed and assaulted demonstrators while the cops watched and did nothing, was a disgrace. These men, many of them ex-policemen who are drug addicts, were last night the front line of the Egyptian state. The true representatives of Hosni Mubarak as uniformed cops showered gas on to the crowds.

    Quote
he demonstrations began not just at mosques but at Coptic churches. "I am a Christian, but I am an Egyptian first," a man called Mina told me. "I want Mubarak to go." And that is when the first bataggi arrived, pushing to the front of the police ranks in order to attack the protesters. They had metal rods and police truncheons – from where? – and sharpened sticks, and could be prosecuted for serious crimes if Mubarak's regime falls. They were vicious.

    Army Commander 0:37
    Quote
Thugs are everywhere now. The corrupt bussinessmen are cowardly staying home. We headed downtown yesterday, many honest men like you told us "help us, there are thugs going around looting and wrecking shops, help us." and they were supporting us and helping us in doing so. We cannot separate the good from the bad, we demand one thing and one thing only - I will take off my army uniform and join you on the street- demonstrate and express yourself as much as you wish, but at night, leave the streets and let us handle the thugs.

Can this be taken to mean the army sympathizes with the protesters?

Hundreds gather in Cambridge and march to Boston in support of Egyptian protesters

    http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2011/01/hundreds_gather_7.html

    Quote
Hundreds of people gathered in Harvard Square this afternoon then marched into Boston in support of the Egyptian people and their efforts to topple the government there.

Organized largely online, the protest drew about 200 people who brought signs, banners, and bull horns. Like the protests in Egypt, the messages were strongly against President Hosni Mubarak.
The demonstration was peaceful as about a half dozen officers from Boston and Cambridge looked on. Horns from passing cars beeped in approval, with one driver attaching an Egyptian flag to his gold minivan.

    Columbus, Ohio demonstrations for Egypt

    http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-546261

    Quote
10,915 kilometers away and the cries for bread, freedom, and dignity are still heard loud and clear. On Friday the 28th, demonstrators around the USA are showing their support for the Egyptian Revolution of January 25, 2011. Here, in Columbus, Ohio, in front of the Wexner Center for the Arts, it is no different. People from all around the world, whether locals from the USA, the Middle East or elsewhere, showed their support by picking up signs and stating their minds. Egyptian transfer student Maher Elsayed exclaims, “I’m happy with what is going on in Egypt! Even I cannot be there, I still want to do my part; even if it is this little.”

Anonymous Internet Users Team Up To Provide Communication Tools For Egyptian People

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/29/anonymous-internet-egypt_n_815889.html

    Quote
Internet not working, police cars burning," sent out one Egyptian. "Today marks a great day for Egypt," sent out another.

These messages weren't coming from mobile phones or computers, but from an amateur radio sending out Morse Code somewhere amidst the chaos in Egypt.

The Egyptian government's efforts to limit communications within the country has triggered a wave of activism from an international group of free speech activists on the Internet called Telecomix.

Organizing using chat rooms, wikis, and collaborative writing tools, this largely anonymous group has worked to inform Egyptians about their communications options while receiving incoming messages from them. Telecomix has previously worked on free speech efforts in Tunisia, Iran, China and other countries who have tried to censor or block parts of the Internet.

Egypt has been identified as a "top priority" for Telecomix on one of its network sites, We Re-Build. It has a wiki set up as a one-stop shop with the latest chat rooms and resources for the ongoing efforts.

There are roughly 20 extremely active members, 50 active and some 300 total including lurkers, according to chat administrator Christopher Kullenberg from Gothenburg, Sweden.

"Think of Telecomix as an ever growing bunch of friends that do things together," Kullenberg says

For the majority of users, anonymity is stressed and real identities are rendered obsolete.

Said one chat user, in awe from Australia: "I'm new here, just trying to help."

Here's a timeline of recent events for the group:

When Internet and mobile services were cut off in Egypt on Thursday night, though landlines were operational, members immediately got to work to send information to Egyptian fax numbers. Searching for a common string of characters found in Egyptian fax machines numbers on Google, they discovered a large amount of numbers.

At first, they sent out Wikileaks cables to these numbers, but then they determined the Egyptians didn't need additional motivation. Instead, they were interested in information on how to communicate with each other and the outside world. The activists thus began providing instructions for using dial-up modems and amateur radios, known as Ham radios, which the Egyptian people could use to communicate.

The group says it's also worked on receiving and decoding amateur radio messages, sent on frequencies recommended by the group of activists. While these groups have only been able to receive a small amount of messages of a short length with an unknown source, the Egyptian people's use of amateur radio to transmit messages represents an interesting utilization of old-fashioned technology to circumvent government restrictions.

Is there such a thing as an Islamic democracy? Seems that tribal rule is the norm, with brutal dictator families running the show and the filth of the bogus 'faith' being rammed down the throats of the oppressed. Islam works well as it is based on terror-frightening children from day one. Freedom and Islam cannot co-exist. A slave mentality prohibits freedom of thought and proper education.

In theory, it supposedly is something akin to a democracy when the caliphis chosen, but only Muslims can vote in it, and only a Muslim male can be it and after a a lot of prescreening by scholars.  Shariah law as it is practically and applied isn't anything like what we would consider a modern democracy though.  Perhaps an islamized democracy can exist, but not an Islamic democracy.  Islam almost always denigrates into authoritarianism

I doubt many really think that the events in Egypt will overnight transform Egypt into a true Democracy - but it's a step in the right direction. There are many Egyptian Muslims who are also secularists - not to mention the Christians and not an insignificant amount of "non-religious" (Ladeeneyoon/Agnostic/Atheists etc...) Egyptians. There are also many liberal/modernist and Sufi Muslims who do not follow literalist interpretations of Islam. Regardless of past experiences with Democracy in the Islamic world - I hope that Egypt can set the example for the future and create - at the very least - a big step towards that ideal.

The only alternative is continuing the brutal and oppressive rule of dictators (who show a benign face to the West) - and that is unacceptable to the Egyptian people - regardless of how preferable it might be to the West.

‘Fitnah’,,,‘Fitnah’ ...‘Fitnah’ ...‘Fitnah’  in Egypt.,   The King Slams..

    Quote
RIYADH: King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has expressed his support for Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his nation slamming those inciting Fitnah (chaos) and tampering with Egypt’s security and stability, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported Saturday. The King, who is now in Morocco recovering from back surgery performed in the US, telephoned Mubarak early Saturday, the report said.

During the conversation, the King said: “Egypt is a country of Arabism and Islam. No Arab-Muslim can tolerate tampering with the security and stability of Egypt by intruders who have infiltrated the brotherly people of Egypt in the name of freedom of expression.”

The King said that the people “have been exploited to spew out their hatred in destruction, intimidation, burning, looting, and inciting a malicious upheaval’’. Saudi Arabia, he added, “stands with all its means with the government and people of Egypt.” SPA reported Mubarak had responded by assuring the King that “the situation is stable (in Egypt) ... and what the world has seen is nothing more than an attempt driven by the suspicious and strange agenda of some groups which do not want stability and security for Egyptians.”

that is what king says..  Smart guy, he understands the problems for ARABISM AND ISLAM  I am surprised to see no one blames juice for fitna. read it alll at  http://www.saudigazette.com.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regcon&contentID=2011013092468

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything
I renounced my faith to become a kafir,
the beloved betrayed me and turned in to  a Muslim
