Egypt protests: Military 'show of strength' in Cairo

The Egyptian military has staged an apparent show of strength in the capital Cairo during a sixth day of anti-government protests.

Two air force jets and a helicopter are repeatedly flying low over Tahrir (Liberation) Square, the main gathering point for demonstrators.

‘Fitnah’,,,‘Fitnah’ ...‘Fitnah’ ...‘Fitnah’  in Egypt.,   The King Slams..

    (Clicky for piccy!)
that is what king says..  Smart guy, he understands the problems for ARABISM AND ISLAM  I am surprised to see no one blames juice for fitna. read it alll at  http://www.saudigazette.com.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regcon&contentID=2011013092468

Some darn cheek coming from an Arab Imperialist. Who does this Arab King think he is talking about fitna? remember there were 360 idols in the Mecca & Muhammad killed off the spirituality systems and now this idiot is talking about fitna? Man i can't wait until his thick body is dragged in the streets and the destruction of his faith ensues.

Remember a couple of months ago we were talking about Islam changing and ushering in a New age of progress & how this would look like? Well Egypt is the starting point and we can only hope this overwhelms the whole Muslim world.

    It's a new day.  grin12

Through Logic, truth can be ascertained.

well the power to a person in  Islam  comes into hands to those who shout allah.. allah.. fitna..fitna.   The surprising thing is, the guy quickly differentiates between Muslim and Arab-Muslim here    http://www.saudigazette.com.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regcon&contentID=2011013092468
    Quote
“Egypt is a country of Arabism and Islam. No  Arab-Muslim can tolerate  tampering with the security and stability of Egypt by intruders who have infiltrated the brotherly people of Egypt in the name of freedom of expression.”

in other words all those guys on Egyptian streets are NOT Arab-Muslims  but "intruder Muslims"(or may be they are NOT  Muslims) in his view.

Indeed it was the logic of Muhammad's Islam to start with  (but   I am actually not very very sure it was logic of Muhammad "the person from Mecca".)

Anyway Anwar Shaikh, the good man from England highlighted that long ago..

Elbaradei has been talking to other opposition groups - including the MB - and it seems they are all happy for him to at least be an interim leader until elections can be held.

It all just depends on how far Mubarak is going to go to hang on and whether the army will back him or abandon him.

    Amanpour interviews Mr. Elbaradei.

    Quote
AMANPOUR: You think the army will turn on the people, if they get the order?

ELBARADEI: I don’t think it would ever turn on the people. I think the army is very much on the people’s side, and the army is put in then impossible situation. I mean, normally, what should happen is that the police should be in the city to protect people and infrastructure. Somebody gives the order to the police to disband. And then what you have right now is thugs. You know, thugs are looting. And, you know — and it’s — it’s — it’s a horrible situation right now.

AMANPOUR: How do you assess the reaction of the U.S. administration?

ELBARADEI: Well, I think it’s — it’s — it — it came here like — like lead. You know, people expected the U.S. to be on the side of the people, you know, who are — legitimate needs for democracy, social justice, it’s — and to let go of a dictator, you know?

AMANPOUR: But now President Obama is saying that the rights of the people need to be protected and reforms need to happen.

ELBARADEI: Sure. But, Christiane, he’s also saying, I look to the government, you know, i.e., Mubarak, you know, to implement democracy. I mean, to ask a dictator to implement democratic measure after 30 years in power is an oxymoron. So they need to let go of Mubarak. They need to side with the people. They need to go for, you know, transition, smooth transition, through a government of national salvation. This is only way out.

AMANPOUR: As you know, the administration is very concerned that if Mubarak goes, the inevitable replacement is the Muslim Brotherhood or some kind of Islamic fundamentalism.

ELBARADEI: This is total bogus that the (ph) Muslim Brotherhood are religiously conservative. They are no way extremists. They are no way using violence. They are not a majority of the Egyptian people. They will not be more than maybe 20 percent of the Egyptian people. You have to include them like, you know, new evangelical, you know, groups in the U.S., like the orthodox Jews in Jerusalem.

I mean, that is — you — they are not. This is — this is what the regime used to — sold to the — to the West and to the U.S. “It’s either us, repression, or — or — or Al Qaida-type Islamists.” That is — that’s not — this is not Egypt.

AMANPOUR: Are the Islamists behind this uprising?

ELBARADEI: Not at all. I mean, what — what you saw is the young people. I mean, it’s all 30 and below. It is organized plan, implemented by people who are 30 and below who are — absolutely have no ideology other than they want to see future hope, a respect for their dignity, and — and basic needs.

everything is good., but be careful here..

20% of Egyptians people means 20 million people.,  That too organized by right wing religious views., so don't neglect them my man., off course pull them in to elections and educate them  without falling into  a trap they way Iran went in 70s..

That whole link above 10 pages or so HAS NO SHARIA LAW in Egypt.  and that was changed by Mubarak
    http://www2.ohchr.org/english/issues/minorities/docs/11/Al-Kalema-3A.pdf
    Quote
It was during Mubarak’s rule in 1991 that Egypt signed the Cairo Declaration for Human Rights stating that Sharia Law supercedes any other law. So even though Sharia is not 100% applied in Egypt, it is officially the law of the land. Mubarak, like all Muslim leaders, must appease the Islamists to avoid their wrath. According to Sharia itself, a Muslim head of state must rule by Islamic law and preserve Islam in its original form or he must be removed from office. That law leaves no choice for any Muslim leader. Because of that law Muslim leaders must play a game of appearing Islamic and anti-West while trying to get along with the rest of the world. It’s a game with life and death consequences.

No disrespect but the core of the problem here is military fetishism/militarism. Armies simply cannot be trusted to play a benevolent rule; they are something of a necessary evil. The catch is not to change the attitude towards a specific army depending on what its doing at the moment (a 'good' army is like a vegetarian crocodile) but to drop the whole celebration of military 'greatness'. Such 'celebrations' and attitudes remind me of adolescent boys strutting their tough guy stuff. The Nazis loved parades and military glory and I can't think of a single dictator who didn't just love dressing up in a uniform. Militarism sucks.

I believe that people who are prepared to risk their lives and sacrifice their blood are in the best position to rule so if anyone should rule he/she should have a military background or at least the backing of the military---a 'republic' like Turkey (Parliament can't even question the military budget lol) is fine by me. I don't think a civilian government will ever have the interests of its people at heart as they can easily be bribed and manipulated by corporations and wherever I look whether its in Islamabad or London all I see is corrupt, spineless, greedy politicians! The Nazi's loved their military parades as did the Soviets  Tongue It was actually an anti-militarism muslim (he believed clerics should be the guardians of a state  Roll Eyes ) that made me question my doubts about Islam  grin12

And was Nasser an awesome leader or what?  Afro The military aid they receive from the US has NOTHING to do with Mubarak, its to do with them keeping the peace accord with Israel, keeping the region stable and of course providing intelligence on islamist groups. Meaning even without Mubarak they will receive that military aid as long as they do what I said above.

Naser was potentially good since he opened a new era in Egypt, but his revolution created today's problems, since Mubarak and Sadat followed his footsteps and maintained the system established by him.... If Egypt would have turned truly republican after Nasser death, this shit would have not happened... But it didn't so today Egypt is being confronted and protesting against the system that was established after Nasers revolution and which has been continued by military men ever since....
