    lol Hizb ut tahrir have almost no support in Egypt. It seems to me, paloma is trying to discredit the legitimate revolution in Egypt by posting rubbish.

    That there are Islamists in Egypt is not news, Paloma.

    However they weren't the ones who started and drove this uprising. Of course they will want to try and grab a slice of the pie and push for their agenda, but I believe the majority of Egyptians won't allow them to take control.

    That's not to say that the Muslim Brotherhood won't play a part in some sort of coalition of course, but even the Muslim Brotherhood itself contains many elements - both radical and moderate.

    Regardless of what happens - the people must have the chance to choose and evolve themselves.

    btw Paloma - Of course we all know many Arabs and Muslims often blame the "Jews" for everything, but in the video you posted they said 'Israel is the enemy' (which is again not news, but a common and predictable opinion amongst many Arabs) - so why did you say Jews?

    Me too!

    In fact I have been astonished at how little of the usual vitriolic statements one often hears on the Muslim/Arab street - and I have been very encouraged by that!

    I hope it means the more intelligent and educated Egyptians are starting to move away from such useless "Blame/Victim" rhetoric.

    Even if Egypt ends up with some sort of coalition government with elected members of the Muslim Brotherhood alongside Secularists - at least we would have arrived at that point naturally and freely and without the bloodbath and the Islamist militias that are the result of the US bringing "Democracy" to Iraq.

    I've always believed the biggest Zionists and supporters of Israel are right-wing Christians in the US. I've always believed in peaceful co-existence between arab/muslims and jews hence BUT I'm not afraid to show my hostility towards Jews who believe God gave them deeds to land thousands of years ago.

    I have a lot of respect for Mohammad El Baradei he has achieved a lot so far in his lifetime.

    I think he is the perfect choice to lead Egypt at this time he has many friends in the UN who will help him with anything he needs,he has the management skills.
    I have 100% confidence in El Baradei to do the job properly i think he will set a good standard.

    The other significant factor is atheists have more respect and rights they are growing in numbers so i think they will keep the Islamists in line.
    There is a atheist/agnostic from Egypt in this forum who is deadly in debates with muslims about Islam. grin12

    The only thing left to do is go and buy a bottle of Champagne which is the preferred drink for special occasions.

    To those who don't know Muslims: Please don't confuse "religious Muslim" with "radical/extremist Muslim".

    Most of the religious Egyptian Muslims I know from my family and friends look down on and despise the radical/jihadist type Muslims.

    The average Egyptain in the street will stop work when prayer time comes, unfurl his mat and pray beside his desk, vegetable stall, cigarette kiosk, and then carry on - but it would be a grave mistake to think he/she would support an Islamist govt.

    Exactly.  Afro  I've said before that to make religion the source of morality is a dangerous route to go down.  Reason has to be the source of morality in politics.  But as we all agree (except DH), we must not get too hysterical about the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt and Tunisia.  As much as I hate them, I acknowledge they are not the same as the Taliban or the radical salafis.  Even within the Muslim Brotherhood there are varying degrees of Shariah support.  And anyway, I don't think the Egyptian protesters want an Islamist government.

    I have to disagree Hassan. Islamists will not campaign and try to get the vote with slogans like 'cutting hands for thieves', 'public stonings', 'banning music', or 'compulsory hijab'. They will say they are for 'justice' 'faith' 'integrity' 'Allah' 'Mohammed'...etc things that are vague but popular.
    The truth us when you ask the average Arab a political question, 8 out of 10 times the answer will be sidetracked to faith and religion. People in that part of the word still think "religious" means honest and "God-fearing".

    Again, quite true, IA - but I have faith in the Egyptian people. There are too many well educated and intelligent people there to allow the Islamists to take power - they know the dangers as well as you and I - give them credit. Things have shifted and moved on. The people are not as gullible as before and want real change - not the same old crap - whether from the old Arab elite or the Islamists.
