    Whats the deal with that? Im at the age where im looking to find a girl and settle down but im having a hard time finding girls that are like me. I want a girl whos from a muslim family just so it will make things easier for myself with my family and culture. But it seems like most women are very religious even if they dont know much about the religion. Why are men more willing to accept that Islam is oppressive of women that its contradictory? why does it seem men can be more critical of the religion than women can? And also how can I find a girl that would meet that criteria? Ive had relationships with girls who are muslim and ive been honest with them from the beginning but after a certain point things breakdown I dont mind being with a girl whos muslim or any religion for that matter but they usually end up having issue with it when things start heading towards marriage. :( Sometimes I think im doomed to just be alone or basically marry a nonmuslim and be disowned from some of my family and friends :/

    Although that would be very useful for many people, the target audience would be too small to be a viable business!

    There are no actual figures, because no surveys have been done and a lot of people who have left Islam are not open about it. But judging by the membership of this forum, it does seem that more men leave islam than women.

    You just need to look in the right places br0. IMO, look for well educated girls. The more well educated she is, the less religious she is likely to be.

    I wonder if generally speaking social ties and also the romantic notion of a protective God is more appealing to the girly girls amongst them.

    Keep your eyes peeled. Don't expect a girl to be outwardly like you - girls tend to be more personal with their religious views. Plus, you don't want a girl who thinks exactly like you, that would be boring. What you really want in practical terms sounds like a girl brought up in a liberal Muslim background who is not particularly religious.

    From the sounds of it you've gone out with a few Muslim girls and were honest from the start - that's great, what I will say is don't let the ex-Muslim thing define you. Were you maybe talking about religion alot with them or trying to dissuade them away from Islam? If you are looking for a girl who you can take home to your (I'm assuming religious) parents then it's probably more important she is from a Muslim background, but try and gauge early on how much she is invested in Islam, because she will likely not take kindly to you trying to pull her away from Allah.

    I attended a lecture on the psychology of religion presented by a well known local professor of psychology. One thing he said was, like you, that men tend to be far less religious then women. The reasoning is not fully understood but the main hypothesis is that men is majority of the cultures get more outward exposure. Not so much in the west but for the rest of the world this holds true. Take a look at majority of the muslim cultures. Men are usually more educated, traveled, and overall more exposed to the outside world. Women on the other hand tend to stick to small tight social groups which usually tend to have very similar religious beliefs. Now the issue of desi girls, well when they have mothers like this its unfortunate but yea they would tend to be more religious.

    A liberal Muslimah would also do the trick: After all what difference is there when someone might call herself a Muslima but does all the haram things, not praying, etc.
    Those are the cultural Muslims: Calling urself Muslims as a kind of respect to your culture and upbringing.

    Yea Ive looked for liberal girls but most when it comes down to it no matter how liberal still want me to beleive in god even if i dont practice. The last girl I really liked was into me but when it came down to it she wanted me to be religious and it sucked that I miss out on so many relationships because of that. :( Im just considering giving up on this pipe dream and just being shunned by most of my family :/

    That is so true.  The Muslimahs don't actually know much about the religion in depth, but they don the hijab and hang around with their fellow sisters and listen to lectures delivered by "sheikh" this and "brother" that, and that's all that matters.

    Okay, well here's the thing. Why not say you believe in an Einsteinian god? A kind of god = science, abstract thing? This is what I say (though for all intents and purposes I am an atheist), and I have stated clearly that I do not believe in the Qur'anic god. It really is the same difference. Is it more important to be a loud and proud atheist or to be diplomatic and maybe win her over slowly?

    True maybe im being less tactful than I should be. I just hate being dishonest. I'm actually in Toronto right now and I'm gonna try and see that girl maybe win her back but I don't know what to say or do wish me luck. But I need a miracle :/ maybe I should pray haha

    When I saw her I decided not to even try cuz I realized that I'm selling myself short if I try to get with someone who wants me to change or is settling for me I still have feelings for her but I know I'm trying to go after something I think I want but it's more out of feeling like I have no other option and I'm afraid I won't find someone that fits what I want and need :( but oh well I'm gonna keep on trying.

    Ok I have to say. I am an ex muslim but if you or anyone on here that still lives with their family saw me they would think i was the most pious muslim girl out there. As females I think we have to cover up our true thoughts from people because we do have less power within islam.
    I am having the same trouble finding a guy because I dont want to "come out" to a religious guy by accident.  I'd much prefer marrying someone from the same background as me, raised in the west in a muslim household and he can believe in islam or god or w/e but I wouldnt practice and my kids are going to be introduced to all religion and lack of religion equally and they can choose what they want.

    We should create an ex-muslim dating site. Cheesy
    I wish parents everywhere could remove their veil of religion and see their kids for whom they actually are.

    20 and syrian(youthful looks and fair skin). my parents in their mid and late 40's and look like late 20's early 30's.

    nice, they must have had you when they were fairly young too I assume.  how have you found Syrians to be ? I knew a guy at work and this guy did everything & I mean everything except eat pork. So from what I know about syrians is that they are liberal ? ofcourse I have limited experience.

    well its really funny. The president of syria isnt really religious, he is alawi anyway so shiite sect in a sunni majority country so religion is kinda iffy. I'd say syrians living in the west are religious, but syrians within syria are more cultural than anything else.
