It's a little more than an 'interest'. It's having expectations, plans, ideas, opinions, a complete comprehension of death, a comprehension of the ‘self’ as a person, forewarned and forearmed and inclined to not only prefer living, but to also be able to visualise death as an undesirable state, even when life is not threatened, and the ability to consider and judge what is moral in the first place.
