    I agree. Although I really wanted ALM to win that next month, I feel that Saeed really does brighten up the place with his appearances; even more so than Alex (besides, Alex seems to be currently recovering from a lethal meme virus, and this has even started to affect his humour).

    Hey, Musivore.

    Don't think I've seen you around due to the fact that I've been logging in infrequently, but from your opening post and what you have said about your wife and your situation, I think she is trying to emotionally manipulate you. She knows that you're a good-hearted, relenting person so she is using it to gain a foothold in the relationship and dictate the decisions you make.

    Btw I'm not casting a blanket judgment on your wife's personality, clearly from what you've mentioned, she has traits that attracted you to her but at the same time Islam has locked on a stiff, closed-mindedness on her where her faith takes precedent over everything else in her life.

    I'll echo what Nessa said, I think this may be a bluff and she wants you to give in by threatening a divorce, however, at the same time you know her best and only you can guage how serious she is about posing such an ultimatum to you.

    Anyway best of luck mate.

    Thanks for your post mate. I'm pretty fucked and things have got worse recently. I can't think straight about this anymore.  I'm pretty torn about it all.

    I can see the next week being pretty pivotal because my wife has set an ultimatum of Easter for me to say I believe again.

    I really don't want to get drawn again into discussions about what I should do in the next week... I just need to deal with this in my own way. But I will post an update when I am ready.

    I intentionally did not give you any advice on your marriage / deen situation as I thought that my situation has nothing in common with yours. I thought about it again and now am pretty sure that I was right the first time. However this place is not a good place to help you believe again. I thought maybe you should try to make your wife happy by doing non-religious things that she likes. You know, flowers, presents, talking about her day... This could make her happy with non-religious you. You shouldn't have too much trouble showing her affection as she seems to be your everything. Other option you have: you can read Islamic literature and start praying hard. Here's some inspiration:

    Good luck, musivore. I think ALM is right; this is probably the wrong environment to ask for directions to returning to Islam. Deconversion is not readily reversible unless the reasons for deconversion can somehow be refuted (and even that isn't likely to be the whole story), and you're unlikely to find refutations here (alsaeedm and his ilk notwithstanding..).

    I'll just offer to give you a man hug, BD-style, because that's about as useful as I can be right now  Wink

    Islam is not for me and hasn't been for me for nearly two decades now. I was never serious about my request to return. But I am touched that you came up with something that would have been a way out for me. Thanks for that (and I found the song quite touching, apart from the bit about the camel. God really should work on his analogies).

Don't let her think that you don't love her because you want out of the best religion on earth. Keep showing her that your marriage and love transcends deen.
