    Well, Sunbul has informed that I'm technically no longer a minor under United Kingdomly law. I suggest we elope together into the sunset while singing Islam's Not For Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dsd_79XPPc), indulging in generic merriment, and generally refraining from forcing each other to adopt certain metaphysical worldviews.

    Mona – when I posted that, it was probably the lowest point in my marriage. Everything had just exploded and I was deeply hurt at the time because I was trying to accept that I was definitely about to lose my wife (and the right to bring up my child with her), and that there was no turning back.

    Since then, however, things have improved. I went away, took some advice from some people on this forum, and went back to my wife and told her some things that she needed to hear. I told her that I had been thinking about things and that I now accepted that there is no way for me to prove whether a God exists or not. I even went so far as saying that Islam could possibly be the answer to the conundrum of life.

    I basically lied to buy more time. That’s not the road I ever wanted to go down, but it seems I have chosen to do that now anyways.

    Sorry, I missed that Lara.

     I've only ever pushed my side of the argument once or twice. And what I have said to her in those occasions really affected her very badly. It seems to me that it hurts her deeply to even consider that aspects of the Qu'ran and of Mo's life may be less than perfect. It genuinely depresses her. On top of that, when I bring these arguments to the table, she seems to hate me for days, sometimes for weeks afterwards. Which is why I've been reluctant to do what you're suggesting.

    But, having said that, I've spent the day with Islame today and he has kind of convinced me to take up the fight again. I need to do this, for the sake of my son, and for the sake of the rest of my life with my wife... I need to create an element of doubt in my wife's head, so that she eases off us both a little. And when I work out how I'm going to go about doing this, I will try to use some of the arguments that you mention above Lara....

    Thanks for the advice Lara. I'll keep you posted once I succeed/end up in hospital.

    That's very good advice Lara...and you're right, she does accept muslim apologists' version of some verses, such as the wife-beating one...why not try to get her to transfer that leniency to the anti-apostate/non-muslim verses also?

    Hi z10... She is a fairly well-rounded individual, with plenty of non-muslim friends. She is a social worker, so you'd expect a more open mind from her, just on that count. Unfortunately, it's hard to sometimes predict where, and within whom, the poisonous aspects of Islam are going to take root.

    Nooooo.  Actually after you left, I began to wonder if I had been to heavy goin (I'm well known for my opinionated trait).  I only tried to give you my opinion from what I could see, from the axioms & values I grew up with, from the kind of person that I am and situations I would be comfortable dealing with.  But everyone's different. Having said that, I try my best to take in the bigger picture and seeing the situation wearing anothers boots, I still cant see a better plan.  But thats still only my opinion. 

    Anyhow I'm up for a traditional desi-style curry & daal, with chapattis on the side.  So let my know the date & time Wink

    Damn!!!, after reading the whole thread i dont think i will ever marry a muslimah in my life,no matter how liberal she is. We can date, or have a casual relationship but marriage is out of question.too bad my mother is going to be hurt if that happens but its my life.

    Im sorry that you are going through hard times Musivore, i can relate with few of the things especially the part where her friends and a sheikh are involving themselves in your marital life,which i find it wrong and its very annoying if people do that. I hope everything will go well for you at the end.
