  • Why women are converting to islam at an unprecedented scale

    Assalamuallaikum everyone - may the peace and blessings of Allah be with you all.

    Many women especially in places like America who have felt oppressed their whole lives are entering islam in big numbers.
    Likewise in america, a quarter of muslims are converts to islam. These surge in numbers are because people are hearing criticism of islam from the media and news and subsequently go to research the 'true islam' themselves. In particualt many women have found that Islam gave unprecedented rights to women including the right to vote - something which is not too long ago in our modern time - more importantly that islam teaches that men and women have equal rights.

    Hey,

    I was a woman American convert to Islam. I had an interest in it for a while from what I read and learned in school. Then I visited a mosque and had a spiritual awakening and I had to join. Sadly, I found out right away that it was a bad decision and the family I was involved with were really strict.

    Dawah is lying. Dawah operates on the basis of: if you tell big enough lies and half-truths, if you are disingenuous with a straight face, and tell these disingenuous falsehoods with excitement and conviction, some people will fall for them. Thats why dawah is simultaneously comical, as the nonsense contained in bluecake's post is so far right, it induces laughter in the sentient.

    muslim women have to cover up because men cant keep their hormones to themselves

    they are not allowed to seek a divorce but he can

    theyre husbands can go and marry 4 wives and she has no choice but to deal with it

    lol major misconception - women are allowed to  divorce on their own free will. Women have many rights when it comes to marriage.

    it is NOT a misconception

    Ive seen it personally where the women had to have a good enough reason to divorce him whereas the man can divorce her whenever he wants

    Women don't need to be 'given' rights by Islam - they are born with those rights under the law in our secular democracy.

    Trying to use 'womens rights' as a reason to incentivise women to stupidly convert to Islam is like a plantation master selling slavery to a freed slave.

    true - women and men are inherently given rights and its a sad fact that it needs to be stated when all over history people have just pretended them to be non-existant even today. Just like adultery, stealing ...etc. are wrong and people know htey are people still commit them - that is why the Quran and the last prophet reminded those rights to people.

    A lot of women convert to Islam for different reasons, some may find eastern culture 'exotic' or something, others might fall in love with a muslim guy and convert for his sake and not the sake of Allah. A lot of these converts end up leaving Islam, americanmuslimgirl on youtube being the latest example:

    The Quran is a tract written by men almost one and a half thousand years ago in order to codify the bedouin morality and imperial ambition of Arab tribes. Its not relevant to the 'rights' of modern people in societies that have moved beyond the stone age. It uses a lot of hatred and sadistic violence to frighten you into thinking it really does have relevance, but when you move beyond it, the world begins to make proper sense.

    There are a very few who do it for silly reasons - they are a few and they do revert - that applies to converts to and from islam. Most muslim women dont do it for marriage related reasons or just for jokes but because they find the truth and they dont turn back. Alhumdolilah.
