having looked through the thread - there was talk of the infantalised voices of many of the main songstresses. Anyone remember/know Usha Uthap (not that I know loads), she certainely didn't have that type of voice. Perhaps she is the exception that proves the rule. I could only find this half-decent recording but it is her version of Kali tere Gut, (origiannly a Pakistani tune) sung live at what seems like a convention hall.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQOYdUfCmko

And her singing an Indian version of a Donna Summer's Tune.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvESjwMWePU

So many many Rafi tunes to choose from - personally speaking old Indian tunes are perfect songs to listen to when heartbroken. Plenty of them are available upthread. Here a couple of them missed

Kya hua tera wada - Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahinn

Just a few notes about Bollywood - It is full of white/fair skinned body fascists - the change in the shape of the heroine (though western starlets went through the same) from say the Parveen Babis and Zeenat Amans to , not that I have seen them but I guess - less shapely, are there any yet with boy-like bodies, maybe Bollywood hasn't got there yet. Is the love of fair skin the drive behind the use of I would guess East European women being used as backing dancers replacing the usual darker native dancers, or perhaps the Europeans are generally, slimmer and taller, more pliable and willing to put it out a bit more creatively speaking.

Also, the notion that one man could single-handedly beat a multitude of assailants, survive injuries beyond belief and kick a dozen men in one flying cyclekick used to mark out a Bollywood film, then came The Matrix.

-actors in bollywood cant act, they are taken in films only because of their good-looking  (just see katrina kaif, she is famous only because of her beauty but cant act)
-most films are based on love
-they dont show the truth about india
-there are always a "hero" or "heroin"
-their plot are funny  and unrealistic
And pakistan try to copy indian films, the only pakistani decent film that I saw was "Khuda ke liye"  based on islam and other things
and i agree with your point

    Classic mate.

If this was modernised she'd be singing about how she wants him to touch her body, have a one night stand and lick her between the toes.

She'd be wearing less clothes, exposing her cleavage and wearing a very short skirt.

The guy would wearing an open shirt, exposing his hairy chest and bumpin' and grindin' a load of girls in the process.

Oh....and there'd definitely be more white people because being brown or black is so post-colonial. We're in the 21st Century Age now, didn't you know?

I wont mention what the music would sound like.

Jedi - My music tastes are like the two tunes I posted above. One is cool/classic - so I do have good taste sometimes but the one before it was a bit cheesy, so I like crap tunes also. I know I like crap tunes because I watch music telly with programmes entitled  So Bad, it  is Good    -      Cheesy, cheesy cheese -  Guilty pleasures     -    One hit wonders.

As to what female popstrels wear? Slippery slope?

I remember back in the day - it was 1992 when the first girl in a nightclub (in my small town) wore a see-through sheer top (black bra underneath). Mees had been to London, university, so I was familiar, but it was new for our town, boys followed her all night lol.

Reminds me of school days too - age 13, 14 - why did the schoolgirls in the class have to wear coloured bras under their shirts, wasn't white conspicuous enough?

A little homage to Nazia Hassan - apologies if she has been mentioned previously

This week I have listened to more Bollywood than I have for a few decades. My daughter is worried. Suddenly, due to this thread, I have developed a love for some would say cheesy, maybe not, big dance numbers of relatively new Bollywood films. I did not even know the names of the actresses in the three videos I am going to post. Now I know one is Katrina Kaif who seems to have a composite face but all put very well together atop a fine fine body, but for me that padukone (?)is sperb, though a bit slim-line. The third video, I still don't know her name, but those eyes and that smile.

Mother India/Sholay and the last ever Bollywood film  I ever watched Parinda around the early nineties. Parinda was good, different, like the director learnt his trade in the West, not that I know.

Jedi you have exposed one of my (don't know what to call them)

I don't listen to lyrics in a tune, perhaps that is why my music is less high-brow. (I do like some good tunes, I do) if I paid attention then perhaps, and this applies to western songs/tunes. Prefer instrumentals. if they sing too quick, high, rap, scream and shout- I can't make out what they are saying, whereas an ex could recite a tune backwards after hearing it twice (or am I making that up, did she look/learn lyrics, how do they do it?)the only tunes I know fully are Sitting on the Dock of the Bay and Sign O' the Times (and that is because the video contains them) and even then at a push.

I listen to music to think, how can I think if I concentrate on the lyrics, (not that I have a choice) obvious ones, ballady, choruses, yes but the substance? No.

Can't sing either. Terrible with a capital T. Should go on x factor I am that bad. Sidenote - those delude, no singing talent people who are on it, the ones who think they are good/know everything and plainly no nothing and still don't accept - just go's to show you the ignorance.

So Jedi, outline your attitude to money.

Wow found another to beat to...

Never knew Shilpa Shetty had a bod like that, fantastic, her body is the double of Nichole Sherzinger(?), Shilpa's face looks 10 years older than her body, usually it is the reverse.

Even though I had to work for my fair share of women, always punched above my weight, kept the company of beautiful women and had girlfriends with attributes, only one was truly truly gorgeous. before her, I used to think beautiful women, what where they like, what they thought, how they moved at home, etc etc

No matter how gorgeous one can become bored of even the best.

Well DA, the song lyrics go like this:

'Don't be too proud of wealth, this money can move you away from your lvoed ones.'

Something I know too well about due to unfortunate experiences n Pakistan  Cry

I love this particular part that goes:

'Of Towers of Silver and Gold,
    Built tall and sturdy,
    There is much Suffering,
    Not enough Peace.'

I guess, it's saying that money alone doesn't bring you happiness.

    As the lyrics further proclaim:

'I'm not saying that money can never do any good,
But money is not Master of all things.'

    Have you ehard this song?

    It is life encapsulated:

    Quote
I used to think beautiful women, what where they like, what they thought, how they moved at home, etc etc

When I say how they moved at home I don't mean in the bedroom, I mean doing the dishes lol, tripping up, couch-potatoing, knowing that theuir shit smells the same too (lol, sorry for being scatological) looking at them first thing in the morning - my 'one' looked like an angel sleeping even though I loved looking at her while she put her make up on, not too much. Her 'flat', single bed, loved her getting up in the morning to go to work, lying in bed, putting on tights on legs that seemed longer than me with red nails, sorry gotta stop.
