    Alright sorry for hogging this thread, i swear i wont post any music for a month. All these songs i heard as a sophmore in high school and they are the ones that got me into trance and electronic music, before then i never liked it.

    ^ Big Dilla fan here.  Prefer his work with The Ummah (as Jay Dee) though I still really like a lot of his Dilla-era beats, especially his awe-inspiring flip of the Isleys' Don't Say Goodnight in Bye and the J5's All I Do Is Think of You in Time.

    I've been putting on repeat the Suite For Ma Dukes tribute for his music by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and his 60-piece orchestra.

    Stevie's the greatest pop(ular) artist of all time.  My favourite song is Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing.

    I'm ashamed to say that I haven't heard of her.  I like this song.  Any tune with "Ooowee ooowee oooo" gets my nod.

    "Back in the day", eh?  I envy you.  A lot of the time I feel like I was born in the wrong era for my tastes.

    Edit - You saw Stevie at his ultimate peak!?  I envy you more.  I did see him twice in London and Manchester in 2008.  Brilliant gig.  Not as good as Prince's the year before, though.  Michael Jackson's gig would have made it a hat trick in 2009.

    Prince  was a jaw dropper for us when he came on the scene.  He had a new
    genre of music we had never heard before.  While George Clinton also provided music
    before his time (even back then hehe), Prince was precisely the start of a
    musical revolution, and inspired MANY future musicians in the 80s.  

    Interestingly, I just found a video of James Brown, Michael Jackson, and Prince
    on stage, but as soon as Prince came up, it appeared Michael and James split.
    His artistry is one of a kind, he is an enigma, just as Michael was (in the sense
    of being puzzling, and both totally misunderstood).  They both danced to the
    beat of a different drummer, if you will.

    But like all things, there has to be balance.  For their superior, mind boggling
    genius, they both have paid very high prices for eccentricity.  Personally, I love
    both of them for being bold enough to share their gifts with the world.

    My generation embraced Prince wholeheartedly.  He was a refreshing, and
    seriously sensuous being with a helluva lot of talent lol.  How other musicians
    viewed him, I have no idea lol.

    I like that, and I'm glad you said it.  It seems like everybody tries to pit the two against each other, even in dedicated music communities where you'd think people should know better.

    That night at the Apollo theatre with James Brown is so iconic in its own way.  The only time they shared the stage together (kind of) and with none other than their greatest idol.

    YES.  P-Funk are dons.  Particularly Knee Deep, with Bernie Worrell's landmark Moog bassline, inspired so many artists in the same generation.  Some of the tunes that imitated that bassline include MJ's Pretty Young Thing, Carl Carlton's She's A Bad Mama Jama and even Stevie's So What The Fuss.  And obviously sampled by so many hip-hop acts.

    Proof you can mix Latin & Arab beats. Gypsy Kings & Alabina did a few songs together. The English translation of the Spanish lyrics are slightly toned down from the original.
