     OP - April 21, 2011, 12:55 PM

Hey guys (I'm such a sexist)

Was wondering what your professions are. Your ages might be useful to mention as well, because it's hard to tell sometimes Smiley
I'll start: Master student in Economics (final year), 23 years old. Planning on doing one extra year next year in order to become a teacher (high school).
I chose Economics 5 years ago driven by the high salaries, but over the years I've changed and now I just want to have a good work/life balance, a steady income and enjoyable and satisfying work.
Last year I've volunteered to tutor Freshmans in Economics, Math and other relevant courses which they found difficult.
All went really well, so I'm looking forward to my future job Smiley

What are you guys up to?

Nice job choice mate (I have a brother and a sister who are both teachers and they love [almost] every day of their working life).

I'm dead jealous because I went after the money and have ended up as a Systems Support Manager (that's a job for people qualified in IT, but who can't quite land a job in programming, where the money really is). So, I have ended up doing something that isn't very fulfilling, and that doesn't even have the compensation of paying really well to make up for that.  Embarrassed

I am 30, and software developer. Although I am doing more of a software maintanace job as it is more steady and long term. Developers usually have a lot more stressed job, working really late at times, and when the project ends, you have to find other one, otherwise you might end up losing job.. Been there, done that.. Now I am better off in a job which is more secure.

You do like to keep posts brief and to the point Naery's?

Btw, the more I read your posts, the more I think your avatar suits you.

Prince behaves a lot mature for his age on the forum. You can see him as 19 year old fun boy on chat.

Thanks man. Regarding your situation, are there any hobbies you have of which you can make a part time profession?
I'd say, find something you enjoy doing while still maintaining your job, and when the opportunity to find something better presents itself, why not take it Wink

I also thought Spinoza appeared a bit older Smiley

How's that working out for you?
    When and why the change?

Thanks, may consider that. I don't have much drive left to make a switch in the near future, but who knows...

The plan is to start studying Physics at uni this year... I've managed to make it really difficult for myself... but here's hoping.

Physics: noble choice. You certainly aren't looking for an easy ride through uni. Credit to you for going down that road.

I got Diploma credits towards hairdressing ( bit of a story, found out it was not a full diploma after i got done with the classes) I trained in a couple of salons for a while and was a freelance stylist (sort of, clients mainly being friends and their friends, gotta love the support) I'm quite dusty now.
Friends & family bombarded me with ideas of opening a salon back home which eventually put me off the whole thing. Plus, i couldn't  cook up any enthusiasm for making it a life long career. ( young and hardly motivated, i chose to pursue an existing interest of mine with only my immediate future in consideration) erm, which is basically what i still do Tongue

Anywho, I now work in Broker company and love it for the most part, I do think that eventually , when i know the ins & outs of Insurance and broking it might get weary to pause and repeat for each similar situation if i am not given room to influence the process, I'm not sure, eventually it might be interesting to delve in Investments within the field ( it's a whole new world) I'd just have to be lucky enough to work in a company which is flexible in regards to transferring between departments conditioned to further training as my current company.

Note: Totally random cause of events lead me to Insurance, I was basically trained internally, and still consider myself in "training".

These two professions would be the ones i attempted at dedicating time to make a career out of.I was definitely not short of ideas along the way .lol
