Opera and classical music!
OP
- April 30, 2011, 02:24 AM
This thread is meant to share good classical pieces and opera!
I will start with the aria from my favorite opera (Carmen) sung by Maria Callas:

Some Shostakovich (grab someone and DANCE!):

Shostakovich is a don. The turn of 20th century is my favourite era in classical music.

Purcell, Dido's Lament, Janet Baker.

Jeff Buckley and Alison Moyet had a crack at it too... with predictably disastrous results.

I've come to have more appreciation for opera in the past couple of years ever since I attended a live performance. I've found that it's significantly more enjoyable live, but I can definitely chill at home with some Puccini or Verdi.

A matchless performance by the beauty in black. Why do all the pretty ankles bear the name Maria? It's like meeting an Aussie called Bruce. Never had much time for opera. Smacked too much of Italian bombast. Till I saw the Magic Flute by the Austrian chap. I defy you to beat this:

I beat it in the third post of the thread.
Unless of course you value technique and melodrama over beauty and emotion.

Cinema Paradiso Love Theme. It's my favourite instrumental track of all time. Heartbreaking and beautiful, felt goosebumps and shed a tear the first time I heard it.
