     OP - June 05, 2011, 02:24 AM

Wasn't quite sure where to stick this thread so finally decided to stick it here. Mods feel free to move it where it belongs.

So as most of you know i offered to attend a radio show regarding life as an ex muslim. It was a nerve racking experience which i am delightful to have gone through. To be completely honest it was the first time i felt that i could put mine and fellow ex muslim's fight and plight to some use by airing it to the big bad world out there.

I am hoping to put the recording of the show up here somewhere somehow, but i just haven't received it yet. *watch this space*

The general gist of the show went like this:

Converts of Islam and their experiences and reasons of conversion.

My experience and reasons as an ex muslim for leaving Islam, and how my life took it's journey from then on.

An atheist's/humanist's experiences and reasons for disbelieving in organised faiths.

I was informed that it would be a one to one conversation with the radio presenter where i would just basically have to indulge in how my life took it's toll after apostatising. However, i decided that i wanted it to be a civilised debate with the convert. I was genuinely curious to hear why she chose Islam over her western background and upbringing. Of course i was sub consciously expecting it to be one of the misconceptions of Islam liberating women etc, unsurprisingly i was right.

She spoke like a pre recorded muslim da'wah spokesperson. She attacked or at the very least decided to accuse my parents for not teaching me 'my deen' well enough and that it was somehow their fault that i was where i am now. To this i expressed my complete and utter disagreement that the result of my life, whatever it may be, is not the immediate result of my parents upbringing and nor are they responsible for my apostasy. Frankly because my parents are by definition the epitome of perfect practicing muslim parents, and despite this fact their daughter who decided to go out and see the world for what it really is, research and come to a conclusion purely based on evidence and not by hearsay, does not prove as failings of my parents.

If i remember rightly so, she assumed that i never really knew the 'true' Islam and that for me to be able to reject Islam i first had to know Islam. I can imagine most of you will be /facepalming at this assumption as it's such a common one, trust me i facepalmed too. Let's not forget we're talking to an english convert here, who claims that she knows the true Islam than most of us ex muslims despite the fact that we were indoctrinated at a very vital stage of our lives; whilst we were young lil inklings of humanity.

Anyway, we moved on to discuss what the pivotal point in my life was that ultimately made me renounce Islam. Here i mentioned that funnily enough it was during the time i went on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia where i did experience a spiritual feeling, however this spirituality did not justify or confirm that Islam was a True religion. In fact it was during this quest that i realised that Islam was not a fair and just religion, i saw this fact in life rather than just on paper. I saw that women were treated as inferior beings, I saw women were discriminated, I saw women were placed in a confined space in the Kabaah compared to the indefinite amount of space for the men. I found myself thinking if Islam is the true religion then why isn't this truth being expressed in Allah's most holiest of places? Why had Allah not chosen to show an example of epitomised muslims from all regions of the globe at his so called blessed Kabaah?

You'd think this would be a valid point and not denouncable (i love making up words dance) well here She decided to mention, something along the lines of, humans are not perfect and the Islam they follow is the result of tradition and culture rather than the 'real' Islam.

I think this was the general discussion that took place, if i remember more i shall most definitely post it here.

Generic Muslim troll then, I take it.

You were never a true Muslim.
You were taught the wrong kind of Islam.
The only reason there are problems in Islamic countries is that Islam isn't practised properly.

If she'd just said that she had no self respect as a 'western woman' and asked you if you were angry with Allah, we'd have had the full house.

Exactly. She did say that there must have been a significant event in my life that must have made me question and doubt the 'mercy of Allah'.

of course she said this before i gave my explanation of the real reason behind why i left the islamic fictitious dreamland.

Standard stuff from the believer, then.

Well done for speaking on the programme.

Its interesting how the media approaches balance on this issue. Whenever the subject of ex Muslims arises, they always give space to a believer to oppose and carry out the usual propaganda. However, they almost never reciprocate that balance when Muslims go into hardcore dawah mode and push converts in the media as validating Islam. I understand this is because of fear and bullying by Muslim activists, and just generally, people are gullible whenever dawah is in full effect, the hagiography of Islam arises and especially when taking converts stories at face value.

But I think that we'll know things have changed when the media always gives the ex Muslim point of view whenever the subject of Islam and converts arises, to give the balance that is required. That is the ideal future scenario. So that the believers  know they can't get away with their dawahganda unopposed anymore - in short, that they won't any longer get a free lunch.

Zaiba, if you ever are confronted with that canard, in fact if anyone has that put to them, do what I did when discussing with Jehova's Witnesses once.

They used the same card, asking me why I had no faith or belief in God. They asked if there was a 'significant event'. But the whole thing with this, is to go on the front foot, and pose the question to them.

    Something like this:

'You have to answer that question. What was the significant event in your life that made you subscribe to this belief system? Was it a feeling of loneliness, ennui, a bereavment leading to depression, general low self esteem, self loathing? How did you surrender your reason, rationality, and intellect, to become an unquestioning, submissive automaton to your god and religion?'

Remember, always put them on the back foot.

Thanks guys, it was definitely worth the experience, in fact the convert was an ex of the ex Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan. And i think her reason for converting was solely because being in a relationship with a muslim.

    That's it .. Kristianne Backer!

Yep, it was an interesting encounter, and i hate the fact that most exxies from Cemb couldn't listen up on the show live. But much to my disappointment Muj did listen up on it, and well clearly muslims think they've got something over us with such and such claims as i have mentioned above.

i just got an email from the radio presenter that she'll be emailing me the recording of the show by the end of the week, i'm hoping i get it sooner, but let's wait and see Smiley

It was not an easy job, and I hope you two may discuss again when Mrs. Backer has learned more about Islam (if she ever learns...)  parrot

The difference between you and that convert who is talking is that in some countries you can be killed for changing your belief.

That itself is the biggest argument that you can use against Islam - thats what i like to say. Islam HAS never been a religion. its a sick perverted cult.

Maybe worse. A few years ago, in Holland, I talked to a young Muslim guy of about 18. I told him that he probably was a Muslim because his parents braught him up like that, and that he might have been a Christian or a Hindu if he would have had parents with that faith. He refused to take that argument, stating that all children were born as Muslims, only the parents of other religions deceived them from being true Muslims, and that they deserved to be killed for that...

The thing is, when you teach this, and Muslims honestly believe it from an early age (or are conditioned into it as converts or whatever), it basically sets up a wall of hostility, suspicion, and demonisation of EVERYONE in the whole world. It paints all non Muslims as decietful, scheming, devilish. Its so totally paranoid and off the scale wrong way of seeing the world - not with open eyes, but with a kind of delusional anger and grievance.

Aww thank you. It wasn't so bad, i was a bit nervous in the beginning and the show would've been a whole new story if i hadn't asked Kristianne Backer to stay on, i just felt it would be easier for me to express my thoughts if i had someone to directly say them to. If you get what i mean?

I pretty much despise converts too, it just puts em in a much more worse off situation as they chose to go into a dangerously life controlling bigoted cult.
