How about a godless religion?

I think we do had a godless religion that utilizes the very spiritual aspects that humans have evolved with. You'll see it when:
- you have faith/hope/believe in yourself when you're faced challenged (instead of blind faith God does this for you)
- the power of positivity for positivity's sake (instead of blind faith God will make my life positive)
- the power of "shared faith" when people as a group believe in something and are communal over it. This could be abstract high level ideas from supporting a political though to patriotism to even just liking a certain set of products (e.g. to a certain extent, Apple product lovers! Tongue

) or even a music band or football teams (some serious heard instinct goes on there sometimes, just like any religion).
- the power to wish and dream and hope and be a visionary (which can be done by business leaders, politicians to your little child during Christmas hoping he/she was a good girl and will get the presents he/she wants).
- the power of holding beliefs dearly. When one is passionate about the ideas they hold, especially in advance areas that are questionable and not scientific or well known facts yet, it takes blind faith almost to back up the perception of our complex world and go through with something. This can require holding a belief dearly, e.g. when setting up a business and against all odds someone succeeds because they had a belief that in the long run to them it all made sense and it would work out.

These are just thoughts off the top of my head - but in brief, I think we already do have a "godless religion" so to speak whereby human spirituality can and is utilized for pragmatic purposes (and hence good evidence as to why it evolved).

Thant said - certain religions have organized the application of spirituality very positively in the West to very pragmatic levels. But this is another conversation!
