  • Why are muslims obsessed with conspiracy thoeries?
     OP - June 18, 2011, 03:10 PM

Okay, that might be pushing it, but still..

Almost every muslim I've had discussion brings in conspiracy theories, crime rates in UK, etc. instead of discussing the issue.

Even their imams preach this kind of shit (ie anti west propaganda). Is this some sort of defence mechanism they use to dodge

    the issues?

Well of course, their arguments and defenses regarding the issues are futile and baseless, so what better way to avoid it than to bring in the infamous trick in the old book; conspiracy theories?

If Imams are preaching it then that's probly why muslims are repeating it.

Was I just not a proper muslim?  I don't know.

I am so not into conspiracy theories, I used to be a muslim, I feel like I failed lol.

Also, some woman, non muslim, who I know is a conspiracy theorist, so its not just muslims, but yea, most that I knew believed so much bullshit.

I really feel like I was never a proper muslim.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

Muslims think that all their problems in their countries are from outside influence or conspiracy against them. Some of them see everything from music to movies as being made specifically to target their youth and "corrupt" them.

    That's what I thought.

I know there are others who believe in this crazy stuff. Like the 9/11 truthers for instance. But what I find amusing is that almost all muslims I've had discussions with echo this 'everything-is-a-zionist/west-conspiracy-against-muslims' line like a freaking parrot. I've never seen that even with christian fundies (believe me, them lot are batshit crazy).

Why? To compensate for their inferiority complex and low self-esteem.

    More precisely put.

Muslims think that all their problems in their countries are from outside influence or conspiracy against them. Some of them see everything from music to movies as being made specifically to target their youth and "corrupt" them.

Yeah this is exactly what I'm talking about, kinda surprised how from moderates to fundies believe this.

I think it's arrogant of them to think that every goddamn living being that is not Muslim in this world is doing something to hurt Islam/Muslims. Some of them actually believes that all scientists 'know' that Islam is the truth and that they're only denying the existence of God because they're too proud.

I don't think they understand what atheism is. You'd think that smart people like those would choose the "right" path if they actually believed in it. I actually had a conversation with some of my friends about this.

The only way to hold on to a false model of reality is to deny reality, pretending to yourself that the world is conspiring against your model is a good way to do that.

I don't come here any more due to unfair moderation.

  • Re: Why are muslims obsessed with conspiracy thoeries?

Many Muslims too often have an over-inflated sense of the importance of Islam. There are quite a few reasons for this, but one of the reasons is rooted in Islam's self-appointed image as the 'final message', the culmination of humanity, the greatest, most supreme, most super-duper, most superior, and the imperialistic mission and sense of destiny and triumphalism over the fiendish non believers etc etc etc, you know the rest.

The gap between this delusional self regard and reality is so immense, such an intergalactic abyss of space between self-perception and reality, that the only way to deal with the cognitive dissonance, is to retreat, in foetal position in the corner of the room, and make excuses, conspiracy theories and everything else, to account for the dissonance between pompous self-image and reality.

The truth is paralysing and crippling. And so they retreat into fantasy, and conspiracy, and basically reinforce the condition with a culture of denial and delusion and anger at others to blame for their condition. The conspiracy and delusion is caused by the condition, and the condition causes delusion and conspiracy. So it is a constant loop that perpetuates itself - it keeps chasing its own tail.

    Of course it is!

    Some more:
    - Armstrong came back from the moon and became a Muslim because he saw the cracked in the moon when it was "split in half"
    - big skeletons found (fake pictures) proving people were giants before
    - Jews are the cause of all economic issues
    - Oh and all the miracles like Allah being written on a tomatoes to a spud to entire verses in forests!
    - Also this:

The reason is that Islam is so illogically bad that the only thing that could possibly back it up is all forms of cognitive bias. Indoctrinated Muslims will do anything to support their belief as it is important to them emotionally to not be wrong, even if it has to be irrational. That's what indoctrination does to people who aren't allowed to have logical and rational spectacles in life because Islam forbids it.

I think its a great way to avoid the issue of fundamentalism within Islam , I guess the whole 'us' versus 'them' unifies them .

conspiracy theorists are everywhere not only in those who follow Islam.   Those who are politically  active and use religion in politics usually spread/follow these conspiracy theories  and in Islam you have politics in every home as the brain get trained since the age of 3 or so., Islam brain washed guy  will start blaming juice.. pagans.. hindus.. americans  and every other guy who allows freedom of religion. It is interesting to note such politically active intellectual Muslim who often act as socialists do not blame for eg.. communists or  totalitarian regimes.

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything
I renounced my faith to become a kafir,
the beloved betrayed me and turned in to  a Muslim

    That is partly the reason

The other reasons for this is nonmuslims are out to get Muslims. This is also an attempt to fool nonmuslims into believing Islam is The Religion of Peace.

My brother believes that Jews have a unit in the mosad that spreads lies about Islam in the internet. He also believes that music videos and movies are targeted towards muslim women to "corrupt" them. I can't handle this anymore. It's like girls are stupid and will be fooled by westernization. How long will it be before I like being a girl,I wonder?

Supposedly, but that would mean that Allah had been lying to them, or was tricking them, or, even worse (if they still can't contemplate that he does not exist), that he is an impotent little nasty blowhard, a psychotic version of the Wizard of Oz, standing behind that curtain, pulling levers to frighten and terrify his minions into obedience to him.
