I'm half way through the 4th book now, and it's going slower because to be fair the writer appears to be losing the plot.

Too many main characters are dead so suddenly, the story is jumping about even more intensely than before, and I don't think for the better.  I can only hope that the second half of book 4 improves because my sympathy or connection the characters is fading.

Only Dany, Bran and Arya interest me much now.  Oh, and Sam.The rest is just makingt no sense.

Like how come catelyn is back from the dead, how do any of those guys come back from the dead but a wight is back from the dead in a different way?

Anyway I seriously hope some things start making sense or achiveing something.  So far not one mission for the main characters has turned fruitful of given me the magic I am seeking from a book.

Hmm... I should have warned you before that A Feast for Crows (and its companion book, A Dance with Dragons) is quite different from the first three book.
I wouldn't call them bad books (don't think I am able to do that with anything GRRM), but the pacing is quite slower, there is a lot of rambling around and the plot doesn't advance much.
Don't expect that epic awesomeness of the last half of Storm of Swords. Hopefully that will come back in the next book. Like ten years from now.
I don't mind Catelyn being brought back from the dead, since it's not actually really Catelyn as we know her, and you know, vengeance

Now that you've advanced enough in the series, do you still believe that Jon Snow is Eddard Stark's bastard?

no no nooo don't feel stupid! I never picked it up myself, I had to have it spelled out for me on various forums/websites. It's so subtle. The general consensus though, is that Jon is the son of Lyanna Stark
and Rhaegar Targaryen, that Lyanna died giving birth to. Ned claimed him as his own bastard because Robert Baratheon would probably have had him killed if he found out
(similar fate to the Targaryen children that the Lannister men butchered). Supposedly that the promise he made to Lyanna ("promise me, Ned") on her deathbed. So Jon could be half
    Targaryen omg so exciting

ooooo that actually could be the case come to think of it.  although I'd have to ask myself why eddark stark would have allowed him to go to the wall if he was under a promise to keep him safe since the wall is anything but safe?

We will have to see   this angle has just added more flavour to the soup.

To be fair to Eddard, he couldn't have known that the Wall wasn't less safe than any other place in Westeros. The crap with the Others wasn't commonly known at the beginning of the book
and it was just regular ranging against the odd wildling raiders come down to steal sheep and women. I don't know if you have time for re-reads in the future, but going through the series again
after you've read it once is like stumbling upon a treasure cave. You find all sorts of little nuggets that you missed the first time, foreshadowings and all that.

Always have time for a reread and to be honest before book 6 comes out, I would reread all the 5 before it.

(used to do that with the wheel of time series but now its far too long to reread for the sake of one book Grin )

Ok, going to make a few more senseless posts on the forum and then carry on reading.   dance

Well I certainly didn't complain about because there's a lot of exposition, of backgroung information on the history of Westeros and very interesting characters met along the way. Well, that was true for AFFC. Maybe a little less for ADWD, but more about that when Berbs finishes it Tongue

I just read something that made me think that, in the third season of the show

since they're going to split ASOS over two seasons, it doesn't really make much sense to end it with the Red Wedding. Sure, for dramatic effects, it would be great, but soon after that specific event,
there's Joffrey's wedding. That is a pretty dramatic part of the book as well, and it wouldn't really make much sense to me to have it right at the beginning of season four.
Joffrey's death served to soften the blow of Robb's assassination, for me as a reader. It felt like justice, so it's better to leave viewers with that bittersweet feel (bitter because of Tyrion's arrest)
than with the sheer horror of the Frey wedding. And the pace of the book slowed down somehow after that event, so I'm hoping they'd start season four with Sansa meeting with Pedofinger,
Jaime's arrival at King's, Tyrion's trial, etc. Just my musings on the topic.

Relax, it is very unlikely that Jon is dead :) And even if he is, he will be resurrected, one way or another. Usually cliffhangers like that one mean that the person isn't really dead (like Brienne, for instance).
People just see it as a cheap way to release Jon of his Night's Watch vows, and to make him Azor Ahai reborn. You'll remember the prophecy saying that AA will be reborn amidst smoke
(his belly wound was smoking in the chill air) and salt (Bowen Marsh was crying as he stabbed him, salty tears, then) and under a bleeding star (that knight who came with Selyse and was being
killed by Wun Wun the gian had stars in his sigil and they were covered with his blood as he was being bashed against the wall). I'll admit it is quite the stretch, but then you have Melisandre's
chapter in which she says that she's been praying to R'hllor to show her a vision of Azor Ahai (she meant Stannis) and instead he kept showing her Snow, so I guess that's how GRRM intended it.

As far as the book is concerned, did you get what happened to the three Freys that were staying with Lord Manderly? It's very subtle and I didn't get it at first (though I got a suspicion). Amazingness

no, it must have been so subtle I completely missed it.  explain please :P

Yea, I didn't pick up on all the wun wun sigils and connections to the prophecy.  I feel so dense, but it makes sense.  :-[

I will reread the books at a slower pace soon, especially the last 2 since I tore through them so quickly I probably missed alot.

Don't worry about it, I never ever dreamed of the relation between Jon and the rebirth of Azor Ahai either. I read about it in forums :D Actually, I'll go as far as admitting that what Melisandre
said didn't make sense to me because "I keep praying god for a vision of Stannis and he keeps showing me Snow" got this reaction from me "Well duh! He's showing you snow because Stannis
is caught in a SNOW storm, dumbass!"

As for the Freys, well, you'll remember that Lord Wyman, in his interview with Davos, insisted on how he gave the Freys guest gifts, which mark the effective end of their "guest rights".
After that, we learn that the three Frey mysteriously disappeared on their way from White Harbour to Winterfell. You'll also remember that, at Ramsay and "Arya"'s wedding, Lord Manderly provided
lots of food for the feast, including three big "pork" pies, which he ate six slices from, with great relish. This pies were FUCKING FREY PIES! The proof is that, while he was eating, he called for a
song about the Rat Cook. From Bran's last chapter in a Storm of Swords, when he was in the Night's Fort, it's said that the Rat Cook served to some Andal king a pie made with the flesh of his own son and heir.
That's the major give-away, which made me raise an eyebrow, but I didn't really give it much thought. So there you have it. Wyman FUCKING Manderly got the Freys killed and cooked in pies,
and served to their own kin at the wedding, and HE ATE SIX SLICES HIMSLES OMG WAT HOLY SHIT  :D :D :D :D The North remembers, indeed. Who knew that Lord Too-Fat-to-Sit-a-Horse
was actually the greatest badass of the North? Frankly, I found the fact that so many lords and houses are still loyal to the Starks and to Ned's memory so heart-warming I might have cried when I read about it.

Ahhhh, now that makes more sense.  I wondered why the whole massive pie thing was even given that many words but considering this new meaning behind it, now it comes together.

I heard a lot of good things about Game of Thrones and was planning on watching it with my siblings, but phew..... Damn, I'm glad I watched it on my own first lol! Lets just say this is the first time I've seen "sex scenes" in a TV show and I just forwarded those scenes because they were too detailed for me, haha! The show was very addicting and I look forward to season 2. Tyrione Lannister is a badass! Cheesy

I love all the additions in the programme that were never in the books — extra dialogue, changes to existing dialogue (“The King shits and The Hand wipes” is way better than the same routine in the book (something about the king eats and the hand collects or something). I remember actually laughing out loud until I couldn’t breathe during the scene with Tyrion’s ‘confession’ at the Eyrie. That was so incredibly funny!
