    Writing is terrible?

    Yes. The narrative has little imagination and generally the paragraphs proceed the same way: 'this happened. then this happened. then this happened. then this happened.'

    However, this can be a good thing. I find it allows me to take the words as just a primer and to imagine the world myself with the hints provided by the writer.

    Maybe that's subjective, or actually not maybe, is.

    Of course. I am just sharing my opinion. Smiley

    I love Littlefinger. He is such a shit, and a sneaky one at that, and the chap who plays him in the programme portrays him perfectly.

    I have rarely been as moved by a piece of fiction as that scene.

    What was your reaction to it? I threw the book away and stomped about my room in the dead of night telling myself I was done with the series.

    I picked it up and started reading 5 minutes later.  Cheesy

    I don't want to give away too many spoilers but it was incredibly saddening. It kind of ruined my day.

    Fucking hell everyone I know is going on about this, and now here too!

    Looks to be lots of naked bottoms and boobs so I might give it a go.

    Sounds like a pervy version of Lord of the Rings to be honest.

    There isn't that much sex in the books; only a handful of scenes in each book. But the TV series is another story, they show boobs at every possible opportunity, some are actually relevant to the story and I don't mind those...but there's loads which really didn't need to be there.

    I'll probably borrow a box set when it comes out or something.

    These stories are kind of make it up as you go along aren't they.

    ++++

    In the kingdom of Leeskard, Ragnor the Bastard sets out on a quest to recover the dagger of Moglar the Leviathan, of the Stellkadon tribe, fifteenth son of the fallen Emperor, FlabbaShard the Magnificent of the Incest Empire. Meeting the banished twins of the land of Waterchestnut, outcasts ever since Fiddler the Bruiser raped their ancestral mother. Only a human sacrifice conducted in front of the Labia of Doom can redeem them and save the name of Ragnor's house of royalty, even though he is the illegitimate son of a prostitute and an emperor. Armed with an eagle that has the gift of telepathy and his trusted dwarf-dragon steed ShabbaRanks, an epic tale of magic and violent armies of men and beasts blah blah blah blah blah.......

    ++++

    Someone get me a bookdeal, Peter Jackson's telephone number, and a HBO contract please.

    Well, let's just say that huge portions of the show's dialogues were copy/paste from the book.

    But I know what you meant. I'm one of those slow people who didn't get it until it was all spelled out to me. I felt like dying then. <3 Bran and Rickon.

    My other oh no moment was
     when it seemed like danearys was going to trade a dragon for the unsullied.  I was all like "nooooooo, don't do it".  So glad she didn't.  Dragons should never be traded .   Anyway, I need to go read more.  But I didn't think Robb and Grey Wind would die :'(

    Yeah, that's the moment.

    *Book 3 Spoilers*
    It's not just the death itself. It's the events preceding it. It's mostly the way Martin lulls you into thinking that there's going to be some sort of joyous family
    reunion between Robb, Catelyn and Arya and that she's going to safe in the protection of her family. And then killing them off so suddenly and brutally.
    That's what made it such a gut-wrenching moment that was so painfully hard to accept.

    I'm half way through the 4th book now, and it's going slower because to be fair the writer appears to be losing the plot.

    Too many main characters are dead so suddenly, the story is jumping about even more intensely than before, and I don't think for the better.  I can only hope that the second half of book 4 improves because my sympathy or connection the characters is fading.

    Only Dany, Bran and Arya interest me much now.  Oh, and Sam.The rest is just makingt no sense.

    Like how come catelyn is back from the dead, how do any of those guys come back from the dead but a wight is back from the dead in a different way?

    Anyway I seriously hope some things start making sense or achiveing something.  So far not one mission for the main characters has turned fruitful of given me the magic I am seeking from a book.
