Near simultaneous blasts kill at least 13 in Mumbai  says news

    Quote
MUMBAI: Three bomb blasts rocked crowded districts of Mumbai during rush hour on Wednesday, killing at least 13 people, a senior official said, in the biggest attack on India’s financial capital since 2008 assaults blamed on Pakistan-based militants.

India has remained jittery about the threat of militant strikes, especially since the 2008 attacks which killed 166 people and raised tensions with arch rival Pakistan.

At least 81 people were wounded on Wednesday, Prithviraj Chavan, the chief minister of the state of Maharashtra, told CNN-IBN. “The vehicles used were scooters and motorcycles (in the attacks),” he said. Television channels also said an improvised explosive device was placed in a car, suggesting the work of local groups rather than an international terror network.

Television images showed blaring ambulances carrying away the injured at one of the attack sites. At Dadar in central Mumbai, one of the explosions left car windows shattered and uprooted electric poles. Police were seen using sniffer digs to look for clues while local people helped paramedics carry away some of the injured.

“We heard a big blast. The building shook, the windows shattered. It was deafening,” said Aagam Doshi, a witness of the blast at the Opera House and a diamond merchant in south Mumbai. “We came outside, and the area was filled with black smoke. There were bodies lying all over the street, there was lots of blood…We saw many bodies missing arms and missing legs.”

One blast occurred at the Opera House, an area full of diamond stores in south Mumbai near where Pakistani-based militants carried out the bloody rampage in 2008. Another blast, also in south Mumbai, was at the Zaveri Bazaar, a big gold and silver market. The third blast was in the centre of the city.

Television footage from CNN-IBN television channel showed debris of twisted metal, motorbikes and cars severely damaged at one suspected blast site. New Delhi says Pakistan-based groups aid and train militants to carry out attacks against India, a claim Islamabad rejects.

Home-grown militant groups are also active in the country and have in the past few years carried out attacks in large cities. The home ministry ordered security heightened across the country.

Well that is what news says..

Hmm.. Bad News & Good News all over ...

    The Editorial says

AS tragic as Wednesday`s triple blasts in Mumbai were, no headway has as yet been made into identifying the perpetrators. What is welcome though is that the Indian government has ignored the knee-jerk reactions of some of the hawks in the opposition and the media who have pointed a finger of blame at Pakistan without evidence, and has decided to go ahead with the foreign ministers` talks scheduled later this month. In an atmosphere where terrorism has often derailed the peace process, it is a positive sign that India has risen above the blame game. The shift in the Indian policy was highlighted by Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao who, speaking in a television interview earlier this month, said that Pakistan had `altered` its stance on terrorism and that disengaging with Islamabad after the November 2008 Mumbai attacks had not been a productive course of action.

    ......................................

The bottom line is that the peace process must continue. Neither government can afford to play into the hands of non-state actors.

That I have to agree and that is vital to the people living subcontinent all the way from Bangladesh to Afghanistan... To some extent it effects even Iran..

Gunmen kill ten passengers in Upper Kurram PARACHINAR: A government official says gunmen have killed ten bus passengers in an ambush in northwest Pakistan.

The official Mohammed Ali said three people were also injured in Saturday’s attack in the Upper Kurram region bordering Afghanistan. He said the dead and injured had been transported to a hospital.

Ali says it’s not immediately clear who were behind the attack and an investigation is under way. Kurram has witnessed scores of such attacks and kidnappings for ransom in the past several years. The military has launched offensives against Taliban militants there, but violence has continued.

Blast hits Kerbala during Shia rite; three killed

BAGHDAD: A bomb attached to a policeman’s car blew up on Saturday in the Iraqi city of Kerbala, killing at least three people and wounding 15 others during an annual Shia pilgrimage, officials said.

It was the third attack in the holy city in the last two days as Shias observe the anniversary of Imam Mohammed al-Mehdi’s birthday, one of the annual pilgrimages that have evolved into shows of strength for Iraq’s majority Shias since the fall of Sunni dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003.

The latest blast occurred near a security checkpoint in Kerbala, 80 kilometres southwest of Baghdad, and most of the casualties were police officers, police and provincial council officials said.

On Friday a car bomb exploded in a garage near a hospital west of Kerbala. Police said four people were killed and 20 wounded.

In a separate incident, a bomb placed under a parked car killed two people and wounded four others in northern Kerbala on Friday, according to an army commander, while a hospital source said the blast killed three people and wounded 23 others.

well., Wherever there is shia/sunni problem these killings and bombings have become yearly Islamic  ritual since that alleged war by the followers of that virgin  Wife of Prophet, Aisha(daughter Abu BAKRA  and the followers of Ali .. The son-in law of Prophet.
