Cheesy  I'll have you know that “Frog Bashing”, has been an English national pastime since the rout and slaughter of the French nobility at The Battle of Crecy in 1346. The greatest practical joke ever played on the French by the British occurred in 1940 - The French fleet was laying at anchor in French North Africa (now Algeria) when elements of the Royal Navy Mediterranian Fleet blasted the crap out of them.  Cheesy

    What I love about England?

    Sunday dinner.

Toad in the hole, gravy, yorkshire pudding, steak and kidney pie, beer battered chips and on and on.

Ooo and rhubarb crumble with custard.

Drinking tea to make everything better.

I think maybe that is it.  The country side is nice and there are some scenic views, but I prefer a more tropical twist to my ideal horizon.

When we went to England we stayed in Kensington or something near Gloucester Road, and it was a beautiful area. I loved the architecture, buildings, all of the attractions in the area, Waitrose was really fancy, Harrods (we didn't buy much but we looked), I liked all of the traditional pubs that served fish and chips. The Tube was extremely convenient.

Downside was the weather and... I noticed no one really smiled on the streets, but perhaps that is the same with most big cities but the people seemed pretty depressed.

No, that's just the English way Unechance.  We don't smile walking down the road, smiling is akin to public displays of affection, horrifying.

When my friend visited the states she said she was freaked out by how cheerful the staff in shops were, and all of the smiles, she said she missed how grim it was back here lol.

We are a miserable, stiff upper lip, tea drinking bunch of twats over here.

Kensington is a nice area, I know it like the back of my hand, I had my first tattoo done in a run down booth in the old kensignton market.  Had some good times down there.

Am I the only person who thinks that it seems very weird for people to walk down a street and smile for no apparent reason?
I think I would freak out if every person who passed me was smiling. It would be like some bizarre horror movie.

Maybe I'm just too emotionally stunted so expressing emotion seems very unnatural unless it is necessary. I mean when I get on/off the bus, the bus driver will usually smile... usually the female bus drivers are more cheery and chatty... most people who serve me in restaurants or shops smile at me .... if a random conversation with a stranger occurs, then we'll smile at each other..... if I read a funny text I'll smile... but apart from that, why would I do that?!  wacko

If someone smiled a lot, I would think there was something wrong with them or they are trying too hard to look happy and come across as fake.

Actually on very sunny days, if you go for a walk, you'll see a lot of people - especially mature people who are walking their dogs smiling and saying good morning to you.   Obviously this wont happen during the rush hour going to work, but it does happen on a sunny Sunday morning when you go down to a local park where a lot of retired peeps hang Smiley

    +1

I feel stupid walking down the road smiling.

    @ fara

I actually wouldn't want to find that out.  Grin

I honestly hated being salamed by every muslim I passed when i was a muslim, I don't want to say hello to a stranger.  I don't want to make eye contact when its not necessary.  I feel awkward and generally just want to be left alone.  So yea, this no smiling business works for me lol.

If I went down the park and random people smiled and said hello, i probably wouldn't ever go park again.

Ella ,  LOL, I don't live in a Muslim area, more Jewish like lol... no but my area is mostly English people, no Muslims around...if there are Muslims they are too westernised to be recognised.
