  • Anyone live or been to Sweden?
     OP - July 28, 2011, 05:31 AM

I am moving there for a year on August 9th to study social science and I'm so excited, I just wanted to get an idea of what Sweden is like either from Swedes on the forums or people who have visited because I know we've got a lot of Europeans here. Smiley

Just anything about Sweden, because I have so many things to think about. Is the language hard? I really want to learn the language, and as I am living with Swedes I feel it is a responsibility if I want to meet Swedish people. Although, I guess most of them will speak great English anyway?

I judge that from this picture here, they must be very tolerant people?: (The main reason I chose Sweden is because of how liberal I've heard they are).

I'll be living in Gothenburg / Göteborg, has anyone been there? Smiley What is the weather like in August? And I hope to do some traveling, Copenhagen seems to be pretty close to Gothenburg so is transport fairly easy?

Actually, derailing the topic a little bit, but being from Australia I would really like to do a bit of traveling in Europe. Where would you guys recommend? I'd like to see the Greek islands. Smiley Having a year to travel Europe, I'd like to cross some places off the map and I think some of you must be well-traveled.   Afro

    Tack så mycket.  parrot

Not entirely true. They share the spot with the country I live in, Norway.

I think Sweden was voted happiest places in the world to live. Because of how liberal they are and social services. Smiley Lucky you.
And yes ironicly it's one of the most atheist places in the world, Satan thrives there ^_~

    ^

We Canadians are getting up the level of the Swedish guys pretty fast.

If you don't count muslims that vast majority of Canadians are very liberal and don't really give a shit about religion.

In fact even the most conservative politicians don't bring up their religion because they know it will count as a negative point against them.

In my opinion a life without curiosity is not a life worth living

I wish I could say the same about the states. I'm surrounded by Jesus freaks.

And it's not even just the uneducated. The VP of my company, a really smart, insightful guy, went on and on the other day about his church and the work he does for it and how God drives his life and yadah yadah yadah... 015

Quit sucking up to Sweden guys. Norway beats them in any department of well being and success, including irreligiosity, BNP per capita, quality of life etc.  Roll Eyes

I've been there, it's very nice. Went to Gothenburg and Malmo, stayed in a place called Varberg. I've learned a little bit of Swedish too. I had to, my missus is from there.
