  • Is the quran aware of the existence of the ovum?
     OP - July 31, 2011, 09:56 PM

i have heard muslims claim that the quran knows that sperm determines gender. But this is only impressive if there is more than one option. If all you know about is sperm, then obviously sperm dertemines gender.

There are two things I am not sure about:

    1. whether the verse in question is actually talking about gender determination. I think it looks more like a poetic way of talking about creating mankind in general.

    2. whether the quran actually alludes to an egg. muslims claim that it does. They talk about a mingled nutfah or something.

lol the quran also says semen is produced in the kidneys

and there i was wasting my time keeping my balls cool to increase my sperm count all my life  whistling2

so next time your biology teacher tells you your kidneys are essential in the urinary system, serve homeostatic functions, maintenance an acid-base balance and regulation blood pressure remind them tell the they also produce spunk becos the quran says so !

The Quran doesn't mention the Ovum, fertilization or even what sperm is, but Muhammad has an idea which seems awfully similar to someone else...

As for the resemblance of the child to its parents: If a man has sexual intercourse with his wife and gets discharge first, the child will resemble the father and if the woman gets discharge first, the child will resemble her'

When 'Abdullah bin Salam heard the arrival of the Prophet at Medina, he came to him and said, "I am going to ask you about three things which nobody knows except a prophet: What is the first portent of the Hour? What will be the first meal taken by the people of Paradise? Why does a child resemble its father, and why does it resemble its maternal uncle" Allah's Apostle said, "Gabriel has just now told me of their answers."

Seems even the angels need biology lessons.

I have to butt in and say that this hadeeth about who discharges first led the most awkward conversation about sex with my mother.

she was all shy and stuff it was cute.

I wish parents everywhere could remove their veil of religion and see their kids for whom they actually are.

The quran is not an anthropomorphic entity, therefore it can't know of anything.

It was quite awkward. I mentioned it to her since its one of the hadiths that are hard to explain away with "differences in translation, and you dont know arabic blah blah".

so she says well, so theres research (which i cant find yet) that if a women cums first the ph in the vagina allows the female sperm to quickly find the egg. but if a man cums first then the ph in the vagina allows the male sperm to quickly find the egg. It was just funny because she wouldnt say cum she would be like, um be pleasured first. so cute.
she then said one of her friends was never pleasured by her husband.

I wish parents everywhere could remove their veil of religion and see their kids for whom they actually are.
