What was your stance on that while you were a Muslim?

I mean smoking is not eating nor drinking.

that's what the ulema said... we must follow the 3olema2 blindly...we are not qualified to think and make tafsir... beside I have little brains and am destined to go to hell, so what do I care...

whatever passes one's throat either liquid(apart from saliva),food or smoking, one's fasting is broken.

Me im just telling what i have learned from Madrassah,sermons and books.

Also the fumes and the smell of strong perfume can break one's fasting

I think you misunderstood what i said. I said anything that passes one's throat. Liquid(apart from one's saliva), solid(food obviously) and Gaseous substance(minus air) like inhaling ciggarates,fumes and strong smell of perfume breaks one's fasting. Capish

well, I know most of these guys are Asians, and they use loads of garlic in their food ... so wondered what they'd make out of it

Anyway, this would be a good get out of taraweeh for some of you who are forced to go to do it at the moque, just go bite on garlic cloves, say you had an unexplained desire to eat it, then remember you are not supposed to got to the mosque after eating it.

I quit smoking 4 yrs back. But when I was Muslim I did not smoke while I was fasting. I do not remember the rational behind not smoking while fasting. I guess it has something to do with Nicotine intake.

However I remember that the first cigarette I smoked after iftar felt really really good.
