    What would that mean?

    Contradictions in terms?


    Is there a possibility of a Secular Spirituality?


    Is Humanism a Secular Spirituality?


    Is the word Spirituality a bogus term that describes nothing?

    I would lean towards this. When I was a Muslim I used to consider myself a deeply spiritual person. But the euphoria I felt when in a trance during prayer is no different than the euphoria I feel playing basketball and I truly become one with the ball. But I think its rare that anyone would describe the latter as a "spiritual" experience.

    Possibly, but its a term with so much baggage associated with it that I'd rather just not use it.

    or a drug user who just takes drugs 'in stressful occasions'

    Some people just can't kick the habit fully sometimes..

    Hey i class my self as a semi vegetarian!

    Eat meat now and again out of necessity not out of unable to kick the habit. Dont enjoy meat that much!

    What do you mean by necessity?
    There are plenty of non meat alternatives if you're not a vegan, sometimes cheaper too.

    Milk, nuts, chick peas, beans, whey protein isolate, (possibly fish depending on your definition of vegetarian), soy, TVP, wheat gluten, mushroom (portobello) , tofu, eggs etc etc.

    Plenty of things and mixes to generate the adequate levels of fats, iron, vitamins, proteins and carbs.

    I think I'm a secular spiritualist.

    I enjoy meditating, focusing on being at peace with myself and become aware of my connection to the universe....

    Not to sound offensive, but isn't 'being one with the universe' sort of like 'having a bond' with a chimp, right before it tries to tear your arm off?

    (I.E/ The bond in question was entirely one sided and in the victims head)

    erm no...because this 'bond' you talk of as we are separate from the universe in the first place to have a 'bond' with the universe...But we are already bonded with the universe from the beginning of time, when the each atom that's part of our body now was created in the big bang singularity. When I use the word 'universe' I essentially mean this reality. We are a part of this universe...no?

    I said when meditating to become aware, and mindful of our part in this reality. Rather than be so busy with our everyday lives of doing the washing, socializing, doing our studies work etc, and not giving time to just stop and being aware of each moment.

    But can this "awe and wonder" be considered "spirituality"? That seems to be an essential question of this thread, and I don't think the two can be related, seeing as the former in my experience has a completely different quality than the latter when it is religiously inspired.

    For example Islamic spirituality as I experienced it was not about wonder, which implies inquisitiveness, but acceptance, which reinforces a certain passive character to the whole experience.
