Yeah, and I mean in general I don't care much for genres, of course I don't. Grin

I just refer to this style of music as "heavy."

And then I go to my corner and mostly listen to a bunch of "soft" shit. Grin

Rather be forgotten than remembered for giving in.

Any festival-goers in this thread? I went to MetalCamp this year, it was absolutely amazing! Discovered a very good band there called PowerWolf who seem to be gaining popularity-

They did, not any more however. Since Systematic Chaos they have sucked.

Dunno if they count as metal to you guys (probably not Grin) but I like Every Time I Die -

I went to my first fest three weeks ago (Hammer of Doom VI, in Würzburg, Germany). Easily my best live experience ever. I got to see my favourite band of all time (Manilla Road) perform an exclusive 2.5 hour set (holy shit), got to hang out with them afterwards, bought tons of CD's and a kickass Cirith Ungol t-shirt. Met with people I've been talking to on the internet for almost 10 years (from Pakistan, Israel, Ireland, Germany, France...). I am so depressed because nothing I do after that will ever live up to the experience, so srsly, kill me now Tongue

Never heard PowerWolf but I'll give them a listen tonight. Metal-archives.com gives them decent reviews, at least.

Thanks for the advice, but I believe I know myself and my tastes enough to be able to filter out what I deem to be utter crap without fearing the consequences Wink

And it's not like I listen to heavy metal exclusively, everyday, all day.

Sounds like it was great! Smiley What kind of metal did they play? I checked it out quickly, but don't recognise any of those bands. I'm going to a small festival to Germany too this December. Looking forward to seeing Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, PowerWolf and Van Canto.

It was a two-day thing with two rather distinct themes to each day. First night was "Epic night", with "epic" heavy metal bands, mostly. Manilla Road are the pioneers of the genre, and the rest of the bands are mostly clones Tongue Battleroar are from Greece, DoomSword from Italy (though their songs are all about Vikings, go figure). You should give DoomSword a try, you might like them.

Second night was "Doom Night", with, you guessed it, doom metal bands. There were like three Maltese bands that I skipped to go have a drink as I wasn't familiar with them. A couple of nice "retro" doom-rock bands (Devil from Norway and Orchid from the US, the latter being an awesome 70's Black Sabbath worship band), a couple of trendy female-fronted bands that surf on the retro rock wave, which I didn't particularly care for.. oh yeah, and Lord Vicar from Finland, which is the band of the guitarist of the late Reverend Bizarre (probably one of the BEST doom metal bands of all times), which was the band I wanted to see the most. Overall it wasn't the best lineup, but I had to go, if only for Manilla Road.

What's the name of that festival? I'm jealous, I'd very much like to see Blind Guardian and Iced Earth. Though for the latter, I wish it were with Matthew Barlow  Cry

An unfamiliar genre to me but open minded enough to give an ear to it.

After giving an ear to most of the songs that have beem posted, this genre aint my type, maybe i will enjoy the concert but not something i will listen to in a car or in my room while am stoned, but they are few videos that i liked and downloaded some of the songs.

That's a very nice lineup, Peru. I especially like Grave Digger and Suidakra (their first couple of albums anyway). Also I'd like to see Morbid Angel for the lulz since their last album is such a gigantic trainwreck.

Also, Geiselwind is a mere 50 kilometers away from Würzburg, where Hammer of Doom took place. Bavaria is such a lovely region  001_wub have fun!

    That's the one.

I wish hip hop would stop stealing and start writing, though. I'm bored of lazy wholesale sampling.

I don't know much Grave Digger, I listened to them the other day and they sounded very good. Not heard of Suidakra. Morbid Angel isn't my kind of metal, although when that type of music is live and the crowd is ecstatic, then I love it. I'd be interested to see the crowds reaction to Caliban, they seem a bit of a red-herring in this line-up.

That's not what I was saying. It's hip hop's lazy, uncreative use of samples that annoys me.
