  • Exmuslim from Pakistan
     OP - August 26, 2011, 02:44 PM

    Hi everyone,

My mind had been in doubt ever since i saw the "Religion is bullshit" video by George Carlin. It was really thought provoking, i felt quite depressed after watching it and then i went out to research whether god existed or not. Then i came across Zakir Naik's video, in which he mentioned the various 'scientific miracles' of the Quran. That kept me convinced for sometime but i still had my doubts. But those miracles really turned out to be joke. And they could only convince devout muslims, not atheists, not Christians etc. I read some articles debunking those miracles. The articles were spot on. The 'miracles' represented by Naik were vague and cherry-picked as i found out by reading the articles. If God had to mention miracles then he would have mentioned something clearly which could only be interpreted in one way. But what really pushed me off of my seat was this wonderful blog written by an ex-muslim "Islame" on this site. His situation was very similar to mine. And after reading that all my doubts washed away. Religion is nothing but loads of bull. It's a prison for the mind. But now the real concern is how will I deal with being an atheist when the others around me are all muslims. It's a really difficult situation.

    Welcome IHIR!

you will find many in the same or similar situation as yourself on this forum.

May I ask how old you are? Are you still living at home, in uni or
    living on your own?

There is an entire section in this forum in Urdu, as well.  At least you found
a place now where you can express yourself without fear of repercussions.

    Again, welcome!

    jeo jawan!

    welcome to CEMB!

khair naal aa, khair naal reh!

Since you are so young and at home, my advice to you is to NOT speak about your lack of faith to anyone in public or private in Pakistan. Not even close family and friends.

Islam is very touchy for many people and they will be quick to cuss you and rebuke you for saying anything beyond their religious comfort zones.

Depending on how religious your family is, I suggest tagging along and getting good grades in school. If you are well off enough, try studying abroad in more secular liberal countries for university. That can be your ticket out of fear and isolation and living a new life free as a bird!

be patient, be true to yourself, be humble and quiet, and work as hard as you can to study abroad. there you can also apply for a work permit and slowly establish yourself so that you are free from parental holds in near future.

Pakistan Zindabad? ya Pakistan sey Zinda bhaag?

Long Live Pakistan? Or run with your lives from Pakistan?

I appreciate your advice atheist.pk. But tell me one thing, is studying at abroad universities really necessary for immigration? Can't i study at a local university and then move abroad?

Well technically you can, but practically its almost impossible. Although you can apply for a Masters if you want to do your undergrad in Pak. It also depends on what you are studying. IMO doctors and accountants find it much easier to move abroad compared to other professions.

EDIT: Btw, welcome to the forum.

It makes it a lot easier if you ask me (just dont try for UK at the moment because their economy and immigration situation is pretty shit!).

    If you like, you can:

    1) do undergraduate in Pakistan

    2) get good marks and get transcripts of your degree

    3) do TOEFL/IELTS (which is must) and GRE or GMAT (if you plan USA and/or MBA)

    4) apply for Masters or PhD in Europe (Germany, Sweden to name a few that have international masters degrees taught in English) or North America or Australia

    5) go and study there and get a work permit after you finish.

that's the best way if you think you dont want to spend too much money for undergrad studies
