CEMB should ban that word.. So is there any way if some one types that word "PAKIS" in CEMB forum, it aromatically converts in to "Pakistanis"??

Seems alot of folks throw words around lightly, without any consideration
for not only forum members, but who knows how many hundreds or
thousands who swing by here to see whats going on.

I have seen some REALLY strong sentiments as well. I dont know if
people are just accustomed IRL to throwing words and expressions around,
or if they are looking for a reaction, or they get defensive and hurl really
shitty things around just for a reaction.

I have had someone try to justify their racism (against whites) because
of things that happened to them.

I guess some folks are just ignorant, or play it up because they think it will
impress someone else, or looking for kudos and being approved of.

Some folks are more considerate of others regardless of their views. Some
genuinely detest bigotry and racism.

This is the internet and this shit happens.

I'm Paki myself and don't consider myself racist for using Paki because I don't use it in a racist way, it's just a way for shortening Pakistani. I think the main thing is the context you use it in. But in real life I would say Pakistani because you never know who it will offend.

In Britain, 'Paki' is a racist epithet on a par with 'nigger' used for (south) Asians, or anyone with a brown skin, not just Pakistanis.

Hence, the word has issues. The simple rule - use your common sense and handle with care.

You should be aware that using the word here might offend some people who are reading the site too, even if you don't mean it too. I'm not racist except for all the racist shit I say when the subject of racism comes up.

I took the univesral spirit in Islam pretty seriously when I was a Muslim. I was that pain in the ass reminding other Muslims that white converts were our brothers in faith. On the other hand I hated jews, even though I'd never met one. That softened a lot after moving to the US where I actually met some jews and didn't realize they were jews, found out later and was like "whoaa they're like normal people!"

Your experience is pretty common, I think. There's a few people in my family that are like that. You're not a real Muslim unless you're an Arab. You're not a real Arab unless you're from the peninsula. If you're from the peninsula you're cool, but you better not be a najdi bastard. After all is said and done there's like, what, less than 10 million "Real" muslims in the Hijaz.

Anyway, yeah I'm at least a little racist, as is everyone. Your brain absorbs stereotypes from the surrounding culture, and you can't help but have them color your perceptions and actions towards people. This is neither something to be ashamed about nor something to revel in. It's just part of the human condition and something to be struggled against if you care about being a decent person.

I’ve actually had quite a different experience, but then again I don’t come from your average Muslim family. My family well—my immediate family is quite open-minded. My family isn’t really racist, although they are racist to some degree as is every individual. My Dad harbors racism towards South Asians—mostly Pakistanis (especially the really fanatical ones). He also dislikes many Arabs, Turks, and his own race. However, he holds a nice opinion of Africans—excluding Somalis. To make it short, I don’t really think he thinks highly of people who come from Islamic cultures. Which is quite odd. NOTE: I hope people of those races here aren't offended. My Dad does not HATE you. He just doesn't like the culture. Well, he doesn't like his own culture that much either, so I hope you're not offended!

I think he’s quite tired of Islam, although he doesn’t really realize it himself, LOL. However, he’s a devout Muslim—well sort of—he prays five times a day, and fasts. However, at the same time he doesn’t force the veil on me or does anything that the average Muslim father would do to his children.

On the other hand, I do feel kind of racist towards Muslims—especially the orthodox Muslims. For example, if I’m on the subway and I see someone dressed really orthodox with a beard, then I’ll be kind of frightened. I remember I once had to go to my destination the longer route, just because I saw this really frightening person that resembled fanatical Muslims from Saudi Arabia who was holding a black suitcase.

i'm sorry if i sound ignorant or if someone else has said this, but i don't think racism is very offensive. people who legitimately hate another race based on a single experience, a world event, etc. are stupid and hateful so their opinions shouldn't matter much to anyone :p i've never been called out for my race, but some of my cousins have, and they laugh about it instead of being hurt by it. but technically i'm racist because i laugh at about every single race joke i hear, but there's nothing wrong with poking fun at silly racial stereotypes
