Season 5 is great too, it's only 8 episodes though. The final 8 episodes come out next year!

It was, wasn't it? It was a great prelude to the final episodes, at least! It's retarded that we have to wait a whole year for it, but at least Boardwalk Empire and Homeland will start soon  dance

and a whole bunch of new shows on my planner..............yes I did indeed spend some time researching the dates of everything I'm waiting for.

breaking bad was epic, I finished all of the episodes.

I loathe walt, any redeeming qualities he once had have soon vanished.  his wife is ridiculous too, hard to sympathise with her.  Infact other than jesse it's hard to sympathise with any of them.  Yet it's still great TV Grin

I don't get much time to watch tv but the only shows I watch ate Dexter and Breaking Bad. Just started season 6 of Dexter and liking it a lot so far because of the religious theme. Only on Season 2 in Breaking Bad.

    Re:BB (5th season spoilers)
I used to be pretty indifferent towards Skyler but I feel bad for her. She's made some very bad decision and now she's stuck with a man she no longer knows, and she and her family are in real danger, no matter what he says.

Jesse is ok, but my favourite character of the season (and the previous two) was Mike, by far. He'll be missed.

I didn't mind him so much in the beginning, sort of felt sorry for what he was facing and could understand his desperation.  But episode after episode revealed him to be my most hated character of that show.

The things he has done are just awful.

In the beginning I thought he was pathetic. Sure, life dealt him a shitty hand, but sometimes there are characters whom you just can't empathize with. The Gray Matter deal made me realize that he wasn't just a poor guy who was doing it for his family. He WANTED that.

I dunno man, you'd be surprised what I have been prepared to do for money if it means I don't have to ask anyone to lend me anything.

Maybe it took me longer to see what you saw from the start though.  I'm slightly too sympathetic sometimes, until someone does something willfully evil.

Somehow I doubt you'd put your whole family in serious danger by entering the meth trade and dealing with nutjobs like Tuco  grin12

Or maybe I just didn't want to find him any excuse because I disliked him for no reason? I don't know Cheesy

Lol you'd be surprised as I said, at some of the dumb things I've done.  Maybe not tuco or hard drugs, but yea, being prepared to grow and sell drugs with some seriously shady characters in my attic.....if they did a T shirt for that, I'd own one.   lipsrsealed

Thankfully unlike Walt, I've grown up.  Grin

    thanks!..

i ask because watching him i'm almost floored at how close in character he is to someone i once knew, and i mean exactly like him.. i wanted to get a feel of what people thought of him.. sort of answer some of my own questions at the same time..
  • Re: TV Shows
     Reply #233 - September 09, 2012, 11:44 AM

I dislike what he's become and repulsed by some of his actions but I can't help rooting for him. And that is the brilliance of the writing, characterisation and acting.

    (season 2 spoiler)
Allowing Jesse's girlfriend to choke to death when he could have saved her - which led to her father going mad and crashing the planes should make him beyond the pale

I wanted to strangle Walt when that happened.

But I still feel attached to him. I don't like it, but I do - and that is what makes the show great. Same with The Sopranos. Tony Soprano does many evil things, yet you still feel connected to him. Similar to the Wire too.

    Out of curiosity, billy

Which character from The Wire do you feel the same away about as with Walt?

Like Bodie, for instance. He killed Wallace. But over time you get to empathise with him, and you feel sad when he dies eventually, even though he killed that innocent kid when he was just a kid.

I think the Wire is all about how almost everyone is implicated in some ways by corruption.

    Breaking Bad season 4 spoilers

I mean the end of season 4. I felt exhilirated when Walt's plan comes off and Gus is killed. When he says to Skyler 'I won', I felt thrilled. Then it cut to the Lily of the Valley plant and the horror of what he did became apparent, but I still felt empathy with him, and thus I became implicated in his moral deterioration. What brilliant writing, to make you morally compromised like that. Its just brilliant.

I have to say I felt no empathy with him there.  It proved just how far he was prepared to go, when at least with Jesse's girlfriend you could slightly understand that he was afraid that she would expose them all.

Using a kid though, moralistically reprehensible no matter the motivation.

You're right. It mirrors what Gus threatened him with, to kill his infant daughter. He has become that which he feared. But I can't help it. I feel an attachment to him. Even though I am aware of how evil his acts are.

... i find him blaming his family  to justify the messed up shit he does... it's easy to do crazy things when you pretend to be a martyr in his case sacrificing himself to provide for his family, truth is, he's sacrificing them for his selfish power trip.. i might be projecting a bit lol.. but i get it when you have to sympathize with him on some level, it's because he's so damn pitiful...
