    I had a bad run in with some stupid EDL member when I was in Aylesbury once, all coming over menacingly to try threaten us with a bottle, and I'm not even visibly muslim FFS, I'm just brown.

    They claim to not be racist, and yet rather than muslim, they say Paki.  It's just football hooligans with minimal brain cells, the usual racist lager lout.  I'm glad Maryam told them where to get off.

    It's a horrid shame that the only voices that seem to get heard against the gradual imposition of sharia in parts of the UK are these bunch of morons and the knuckledragging racists of the BNP ... Neither organisation really deserves to exist any more than Anjems assorted banned groups.

    It's entirely the fault of mainstream muslim and non-muslim community and politicians for not addressing the issue of Islam and multiculturalism in a muscular manner that has led to groups like this. There is a genuine growing discontent with multiculturalism (whatever it means) among the mainstream white population throughout the west. And if their own people won't address the issue, then these grievances get transferred to far right groups and then voila... you have dipshits spweing hate.

    Absolutely. The hairtrigger anger that seems to ferment in the muslim community along with the fear of being branded racist or islamophobic keeps the mainstream white population from voicing any criticism of anything islamic. That led to the islamists agitating for sharia in the self segregated communities and we were supposed to let  them get on with it without being able to voice any concern at all. Sadly, much of the mainstream muslim community and a large amount of ex-muslims are also kept down by the intimidation so it leads to the idea brewing that ALL muslims are to blame.. which is what we saw here..

    No doubt there is some truth in the idea that there is a gap of understanding between Islamists / orthodox Deobandi-type Muslims and the rest of British society, especially in some towns and cities with growing issues of social segregation.

    However, after over 20 years of (post Satanic Verses affair) Islamic identity politics, Salafi bullshit extremism, a long line of apprehended jehadi terrorist plots, and actual suicide bombings, the worst that 60 million non Muslims in Britain can produce is a few hundred knuckle-dragging football hooligans peddling the threats of collective punishment in a thuggish street violence mode.

    Most people, no matter what issues they have with Islamism, Islamic identity politics, or even Islam itself, don't follow the EDL (and inversely the Islamist) paradigm of collective guilt and ideas of collective communal punishment.

    Watch the whole speech, you will see that he refers to Ismalists all the way through until that final moment, he makes a mistake and says Muslim instead of Islamist, it was a genuine mistake made in the heat of the moment.

    Why was it a "mistake"? The likes of Abu Hamza, Anjem Chodhury et al call THEMSELVES "Muslims". Why should this self-definition be rejected in favor of "Islamist"?

    Because we need a definition that excludes many millions of muslims that are not intent on violence and stealth jihad and to give a name to those who are.

    It's a bad thing to generalise and to there fore demonise lots of people who don't deserve it, there are many, many decent people who are muslims and I do not wish to see any harm come to them.

    The EDL guy has to explain to DH why generalizations that demonize millions of those who've done nothing but be born into a different religious tradition is wrong. Brilliant.

    Anyhow I may have said this before, and if so, I'll say it again-- I think your beliefs are fucked arthur and that the EDL are a proto-fascist organization, but you seem to be a decent human being at heart.
