     OP - September 18, 2011, 03:46 AM

There's got to be other Torchwood fans around here dance.... but there was no thread for the appreciation of this show...so here it is. Now that Miracle Day has ended, what'd you think of the series?

I personally thought it was mostly okay, lagging in parts and really good in other parts, but not quite up to the level of Children of Earth, which was written more tightly and was just more engaging.

    What'd you think?

I watched it. I love a good sci fi.

But I did not like any of the characters in Torchwood.

There is certain hollowness to the show...

I have never watched any of the old Torchwood series before... but I kinda liked the new one. It wasn't great and the plot was a bit weak at times with the characters getting quite annoying but overall it was good enough to keep me hooked and I wonder if there's going to be another one Smiley

I love doctor who. The new series started off well with Matt Smith as the Doctor but it has since went down hill  Cry

Though my favourite doctor is Tom Baker  Smiley

Yeah, I used to watch some doctor who when I was a kid (although mum wouldn't let me watch some).

These new resurrected series....some are alright.

I love the character of doctor who. The eccentric, super intelligent, adventurous, friendly, lively, enthusiastic...etc. Heh. Smiley With a sort of 'nothing is impossible' attitude.

I think we need a separate Doctor Who appreciation society Tongue

    +1

I actually loved Gwen's character for the first time in Miracle Day. Never really liked her before, but thought she was great in MD.

Oh and anyone who hasn't seen the first 2 series and Children of Earth, go and watch those! There were some great moments in them all. I actually liked the lighter 1st two series best.

As for Dr. Who, I loved loved loved David Tennant,  grin12 I just can't get myself to like Matt Smith - he has no facial expressions! wacko

Torchwood is a TV show, basically a mix of X-Files and Dr. Who. Sci fi, alien hunting, goofy stuff, all mixed in.... Good stuff Afro

Torchwood is magnificent, with some great characters in. The latest series, whilst riddled with flaws, was pretty fun once I got into it. Nonetheless, Children of Earth was definitely the best Torchwood series. So many great elements to it: the acting, the plotline, the deep traumas they had to deal with… Completely top tier.

Yeah I have problems with Miracle Day - I loved some parts of it, but overall it lagged and the payoff was not really worth the wait IMO.

Children of Earth, though, OMG.... what a masterpiece! I'm actually re-watching that nowadays dance

Miracle day is the first torchwood series I've ever seen- I didn't even know there were previous ones, thought it was a whole new series  Huh?

Anyway, I think the show plot was great. I know that people always get smart and point out inaccuracies etc but I think it was a really good plot! However, the characters were just not likeable. I mean, Gwen? WTF? She's just so annoying- she has absolutely no charisma or likeability at all. I got to like the blonde girl by the end, she was sort of representative of the viewer who got pulled into the drama accidentally. Jack, although hot, I think they overdid the gay thing- I mean, I'm OK with gayness and all, as I am with hetrosexuality, but the show was too desperate to make a point- they didn't just put it in our faces, they literally poked it into our eyes and gouged them out with it- was way too over done.

And that black guy- super annoying. He was just a jerk most of the time and the rest of the time just whined about being in pain.

Overall- great plot, lame characters, little/no character development (is this cos this is just one series among many?)

     Reply #26 - September 19, 2011, 04:01 AM

Well, go and watch the 1st three seasons for character development.

Just got done with CoE again - hands down the best of TW. I read there was a huge brouhaha over Ianto's demise, but whatever, I loved CoE... that ending has to be one of the most dramatic endings in TV history...

Miracle Day, well, I thought in parts was excellent, but I wish it had been Britain-based instead of U.S. based... I didn't like Rex or Esther, but I loved Jilly Kitzinger (not just because she's played by the very hot and amazing Lauren Ambrose 001_wub of Six Feet Under fame).

As for people whining about Jack's "gayness" get over it, seriously. The character is pansexual, yet nobody complains when he loves women, only when he loves men. Roll Eyes The main character is a straight woman and her husband and their newborn baby are always with her, but hey, we have to ensure that no gay or bi male character gets to express their sexuality or love on a tv show... Nobody complained that Rex and Vera were having pretty graphic sex, yet people wrote to the BBC complaining about Jack's m/m sex scenes. LOL.... and then to hide behind "oh I don't mind *gayness* I just don't want it shoved in my face"... riiiight... 'cause straightness ain't shoved in our faces all the time, but that's a-ok, right?

Whatever... just enjoy some Jack Harkness.

Was kind of disappointed with Miracle Day

Ianto was my favourite character, but I love a show with the balls to kill off its main cast.

    The character is pansexual

I believe he refers to himself as ‘omnisexual’ Cheesy.
