  • Need an answer....
     OP - September 23, 2011, 08:25 PM

    someone asked me,
'If there are scientific accuracies in Qur'an, how is it possible that Muhammad knew all that. He must have been told by some kind of power.'

    What should I answer?

Mo was a trader employed by Khadijah (in an era/region where supposedly women had no rights LOL), he came into contact with all sorts: Jews, Greeks, and others. Even if he was "illiterate" which is a dubious claim in itself, that does not mean he had no capacity to understand or remember verbal conversations.

    [13:37] <Fimbles> is wacko
    [13:37] <Fimbles> see
[13:37] <Fimbles> you think i'd enjoy anything above 7 inches up my arse?

This is pretty much the contention of the Islamic apologist, but it's predicated on completely dubious premises from the outset, and therefore has little philosophical weight.

plus ....what is the reality of Dr .Maurice's book "Quran Bible and Science"?

The scientific knowledge in the quran can be paralleled to the knowledge a taxi driver possesses- meeting so many people, listening to radio, etc means info filters to the taxi driver and (s)he then repeats it in basic ways, showing her/his level of knowledge/understanding. If a taxi driver of today wrote down what (s)he know of science it would be vague, ambiguous and often incorrect- however some of it would be right. If a scientist of today wrote down all discoveries (as they do) there would be more detail and more correct things, as well as many inaccurate things.

The thing is all of the 'correct' things in the quran are either:

    1. So ambiguous and/or vague they can be manipulated to fit what is now known
    2. Totally wrong and then freely translated to change the meaning to fit what is now known
    3. Knowledge theorised many many years before Muhammed was even born!

Number 3 is of most interest as it relates to things that are actually correct sometimes. In answer to these 'revelations'- it's illoical to assume God must have told Muhammed things when these things were not new and unknown! These things were known by others (the greeks/egyptians) long before! So did God tell them to ergo implying that their religions were true!?

Slightly offtopic, Saffire, but you're making me think of this.

Don't underestimate taxi drivers. I once had a taxi driver who was also a university professor.

    Haha thanks canex.

Abood I'm not underestimating a taxi driver- the opposite in fact. My point is that taxi drivers know a little bit about everything in general due to their job... um in much the same way a travelling merchant who meets many people might know a little about all sorts of things such as medicine, astronomy, geology, etc...
