Oh right, one of many HBO and Showtime shows for which I didn't find the premise interesting, therefore never went out of my way to watch (I don't have cable so I've always had to get that kind of stuff online or DVD or whatever).

The meerkat or suricate, Suricata suricatta, is a small mammal belonging to the mongoose family. Meerkats live in all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a "mob", "gang" or "clan". A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats, but some super-families have 50 or more members. Meerkats have an average life span of 12–14 years.

The avatar is of two baby meerkats born at Sydney's Taronga zoo. Smiley

The small Spotted Cat or the black-footed cat is the smallest wild cat but it is also extremely ferocious. It is found in dry semi desert and savannah regions in southern Africa. They live in unoccupied animal hollows, rock caves and sometimes even in hollow ant-hills.

As the name implies, the black-footed cat is black beneath the feet. The cat has an amber-brown coat with black spots. These spots may merge to form broken horizontal lines. Their legs have black horizontal stripes and the tail has several dark rings with a black tip. They also has a black streak from the eye across the cheek.

Because of their small size, they eat rodents and birds, but will also eat insects and small reptiles when they have the chance. They may catch larger animals and store them in a safe spot to eat later, or they might scavenge on the corpses of large animals such as young buck or lambs. If there is water available the cat will drink, but they obtain their necessary fluid from eating meat.
The black-footed cat keeps to itself and is nocturnal. In courtship, they will only remain together for the necessary time.

The female gives birth to 1 or 2 kittens after a gestation period of 59 - 68 days. Kittens have a fast growth and development rate but gain sexual maturity much later than it takes them to grow.
    Other Names

        Klein Gekolde Kat
        Black footed cat

    Taxonomy

        Order - Carnivora
        Family - Felidae
        Genus - Felis
        Species - Felis nigripes

I've gone for the dessert option.  We don't want an overload of cute spotty cats and animals with ridiculous ears.

Let's make the next theme something to mark the October 22 inauguration of the new blogTV show "The Jinn and Tonic Show", hosted by TheRationalizer (rehearsal video here).

    Suggestions?

Ok, seriously though, it's a bit hard to find a theme that matches that. What is the show on Monday going to be about exactly?

Hmmm... I was thinking something along the lines of "Spirits" either jinns/supernatural creatures or your favourite liquor/drinks.

Not sure if there's a theme to the show, especially the first one. The rehearsal ended up being a very interesting conversation with a Muslim about concubines.

Absinthe (pronounced /ˈæbsɪnθ/ ab-sinth, or ˈæbsænθ ab-santh) is historically described as a distilled, highly alcoholic (45–74% ABV / 90-148 proof) beverage.[1][2][3][4] It is an anise-flavoured spirit derived from herbs, including the flowers and leaves of the herb Artemisia absinthium, commonly referred to as "grande wormwood", together with green anise and sweet fennel. Absinthe traditionally has a natural green colour but can also be colourless. It is commonly referred to in historical literature as "la fée verte" (the "green fairy" in French).

Although it is sometimes mistakenly called a liqueur, absinthe is not bottled with added sugar and is therefore classified as a spirit.[5] Absinthe has a very high level of alcohol by volume but is normally diluted with water when consumed.

Absinthe has been portrayed as a dangerously addictive psychoactive drug.[7] The chemical thujone, present in small quantities, was blamed for its alleged harmful effects. By 1915, absinthe had been banned in the United States and in most European countries including France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Although absinthe was vilified, it has not been shown that it is any more dangerous than ordinary spirits. Its psychoactive properties, apart from those of alcohol, have been much exaggerated.

Goodbye desert eagle, income snake wine!

"Snake wine (蛇酒, pinyin: shéjiǔ; rượu rắn in Vietnamese) is an alcoholic beverage produced by infusing whole snakes in rice wine or grain alcohol. The drink was first recorded to have been consumed in China during the Western Zhou dynasty and considered an important curative and believed to reinvigorate a person according to Traditional Chinese medicine.[1] It can be found in China, Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia.

The snakes, preferably venomous ones, are not usually preserved for their meat but to have their "essence" and snake poison dissolved in the liquor. However, the snake venom is denatured by the ethanol; its proteins are unfolded and therefore inactive"

FYI: I would never drink such a thing /vomit

    My favourite shooter
Tasted Whiskey for the first time last night and threw it away *sorry whiskey drinkers*

    Springbokkie Shot

Springbokkie ShotThe Springbokkie Shot, also known as a springbok shot or shooter, is a green and gold drink that is as proudly South African as the animal it is named after.

Layering it makes a pretty shot that is deliciously creamy with a yummy hint of mint.
    Ingredients

        1/2 oz peppermint liqueur
        1/2 oz amarula cream liqueur

    Directions
Pour the peppermint liqueur into shot glass. Using a spoon held against the side of the shot glass, pour the amarula onto the spoon, thus floating the amarula ontop of the peppermint liqueur.

    The following measurements are equal: 1 oz = 30ml = 1 tot = 1 shot = 3cl
