Hmm sort of. My parents are Muslim, but they never forced it upon us, and so I can't really say I believed in Islam anything beyond generic spirituality.

Yes Proudly I am an ex-muslim, in 2003 I left islam, and became an atheist, after a great infighting i found the truth: "renouncing islam". I spend 8 precious years of my life in an islamic madrassah, and got the Aalim degree. but it does not work to hold down me to became an atheist.  Wink

Tentative ex-Muslim here, but also hates labels.

I don't know what I am but I'm definitely not 'Muslim' and my parents are, so that technically makes me an apostate.

I too have a problem with labels - but unfortunately it the Muslims and Islam who state that one can never leave Islam - once 'born a muslim' always a mulsim...  Unfortunately the only way to highlight this situation and hopefully to help the people who what to leave, it makes sense (at the moment at least - I'm optimistic) to have this lable of 'ex-muslim' to show that there are those of us who have choosen freely to leave Islam.

I'm beginning to think that some people here think that BerberElla is the forum's punch bag.

But since this is the first and only forum I've ever posted on perhaps it is because she is the Administrator.

Is it normal on forums to have a pop at the Administrator or is it just here?

if one is born as muslim can they realy be an ex-muslim? its kinda like saying your ex black or ex white is it not?

being muslim is a definition of what we are is it not? not saying you have to follow the faith its just what you are? Muslim! my argument comes from the understanding that race is a combination of religon and ethncity even if one does not actualy follow that religon.

    Your understanding is flawed.

Babies aren't even born with a set of words to speak let alone a set of supernatural beliefs.
