We can become so 'creative' with our 'theories' to support our pet ideologies.

    Load of cods wallop!

    Little Fly, Thy summer's play
My thoughtless hand has brushed away.

I too dance and drink, and sing,
Till some blind hand shall brush my wing.

Therefore I am a happy fly,
If I live or if I die.

As tragic as this is, one single case doesn't prove that gender is not a social construct.

I'll go further and say this isn't even an argument that gender is not a social construct. But then again, that's just hypocrucifier spewing his usual heteronormative bullshit.

When a  general claim is made that gender is a social construct, a single instance[not that there won't be others] where this is not true is sufficient to disprove it.
Nurture over nature? Despite being brought up as a girl he couldn't become one.If the claim were true then this should have been a cakewalk.
Something more than your sex organs determines your gender.

The best part is that this reaffirms that being gay, transgender etc. is NATURAL and people are angry about it!
In fact this doesn't make them outcasts but shows that they are legitimate members of the human race.
But to say that all these genders are 'identical' is stretching things a bit too far IMO.

ETA: Thank you harakat for sticking to the subject at hand!

Women have oestrogen, men have more testosterone Tongue

Hormones play a part in behaviour of the person, affects your mood, character...so 'gender' is not just a social construct.... :S

Cheesy Some people don't like this fact! Besides there could be some other factors unknown as yet which play a role in the differentiation of genders. I find it very interesting.
You may fool around with the 'nurture' part of human life but you can't fuck with the 'nature' part .

There is a documentary in which the researchers thought - who can we use as guinea-pigs for people who have had no sexist socialisation? So they went to a load of monkeys. They went with rag dolls and cars and trains with wheels. The most interesting thing was when they went for a coffee and left the bag of toys. One of the monkeys came and threw all the toys out of the bag. The others came down and took the toys. The female monkeys took the dolls and held them like babies and the male monkeys were on the ground pushing the cars and trains.

We may not like it - but male and female brains are different and awash with different hormones that change our behaviour and perceptions.

I am my own worst enemy and best friend, itsa bit of a squeeze in a three-quarter bed, tho. Unhinged!? If I was a dog I would be having kittens, that is unhinged. Footloose n fancy free, forced to fit, fated to fly. One or 2 words, 3 and 3/thirds, looking comely but lonely, till I made them homely.D

    1. As harakaat says, the video proves nothing.

    2. I don't think it's an either/or proposition. I think people's definitions of gender are affected BOTH by biology and society.

    3. What does it matter, really? I'm not gonna lie, I find most (not all) transgendered/transsexual/gender-benders to be, well, weird and creepy. Sorry, but that's a moral failing on my part I guess. But the main point should be that social rights and privileges should not be denied or limited to someone solely on the basis of their gender identity. Who gives a fuck as to whether it's nature or nurture when it comes to a public policy or moral standpoint? Feel the same way about that argument regarding sexual orientation-- I always thought the argument that gays should not be discriminated against cause they're born that way to be utterly retarded and weak-- cause it's not like the orientation itself is something that should need to be morally defended on a "but they can't help it"  basis. What is so wrong about a guy sticking his dick in another guy's ass that it needs to be explained away as not being a choice?

    fuck you

If you've never run across creepy trannies, I suggest hanging out in Greenwich Village sometime. Some of the characters there would challenge the most open-minded most pro-trans people out there not to characterize them as being "creepy". Again, I'm not saying all, I've met some I didn't consider creepy at all, but that's not the majority of the admittedly limited sample I've interacted with or observed. I'm sorry but some drug-addled Vietnamese guy in Daisy Dukes with A-cup hormone therapy titties nipples poking out of his white shirt tied up at his chest which also exposes his fat pot belly as he gesticulates in an overly feminine and sleazy manner while I'm trying to have lunch at a sidewalk cafe creeps me out a little-- so sue me.

    fuck you

Well sure there are some creepy ones, but there are some seriously creepy straights too. From the ones I've met I wouldn't say the majority are creepy. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Indeed, but I'm just saying out of my admittedly small sample size I've run across a higher proportion of creepy trans folks is all. Again, not particularly proud of saying that, and I'm sure a good deal of it has to do with my own hang ups, just being honest about it is all, and I think at least a few I've come across would be considered "creepy" by people without any hang ups over the matter.

A little known fact is that sex reassignment procedures in many cases are so good that you really can't tell by the end of it that they're transsexuals. I've met several transfolk who I wouldn't have known they were trans if they hadn't told me. If you can tell someone is trans, they're more likely to be a transvestite, drag queen or someone who hasn't completed the procedure. You might've interacted with non-creepy transsexuals without even knowing it.

Yeah if I met someone who I wouldn't be able to tell if they didn't tell me, then I might be weirded out a bit when they first told me, but I doubt that would last long. Can't really see myself getting creeped out by someone who acts and looks normal just cause they had a different gender prior to surgery, well, unless they told me after having sex with me, then I think we got a problem.  Cheesy

A friend of men said it's misogyny to treat women like they were men...to treat women as you treat men and vice versa is definitely not misogyny...anyone agree or disagree?

i dislike all humans...the race will hopefully manage to end itself in a quick and stupid way.

but you always have treat women differently, they have vaginas and men have penises, both organs do different things...thus we are different

No, by the time your arms and legs start developing you have quite a lot of cells. The arms and legs develop from different cells. Dick and clit come from the same ones.
