    ^that was a great movie...

two of my favourite quotes from the movie "secondhand lions"

Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good. That honour, courage and virtue mean everything ; that power and money ... money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil. And I want you to remember this.... that love....true love never dies ! Remember that boy ... remember that. Doesn't matter if it is true or not, a man should believe in those things , because those are the things worth believing in...... got that

    and...

I’m Hub McCann. I’ve fought in two world wars, and countless smaller ones on three continents. I’ve led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and TANKS. I’ve seen the headwaters of the Nile and tribes of natives no white men had ever seen before. I’ve won and lost a dozen fortunes, KILLED MANY MEN! And loved just one woman with a passion a flea like you could never begin to understand. That’s who I am.

    the notebook...
The best love is the kind that weakens the soul, that makes us reach for more, that plants fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. And that's what you've given me. That's what I hope to give to you forever

I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair.
I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare.
I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind.
I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry.
I hate it that you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.

from love and death..  grin12 wheat!

To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering, one must not love; but then one suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer, to suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love; to be happy then is to suffer, but suffering makes one unhappy; therefore to be unhappy one must love or love to suffer or suffer from too much happiness. I hope you're getting this down.

So many Woody Allen films you can quote from Grin

"we can smell traitors and country haters"

Love is Blind. Stevie Wonder is blind. Therefore, Stevie Wonder is God.

Another Woody Allen, from 'Play It Again Sam'

    +++++

"It restates the negativeness of the universe. The hideous lonely emptiness of existence. Nothingness. The predicament of Man forced to live in a barren, Godless eternity like a tiny flame flickering in an immense void with nothing but waste, horror and degradation, forming a useless bleak straitjacket in a black absurd cosmos"

I like this Nessy but it is from a poem by the writer Charles Bukowski, whom this movie ""Tales Of Ordinary Madness" is about. Incidentally the actor who plays him here Ben Gazzara died just last week.

ArX and Ishina may like this too.

    +++++

Style is the answer to everything.
Fresh way to approach a dull or dangerous day.
To do a dull thing with style is preferable to doing a dangerous thing without style.
To do a dangerous thing with style, is what I call art.
    Bullfighting can be an art.
    Boxing can be an art.
    Loving can be an art.
Opening a can of sardines can be an art.
    Not many have style.
    Not many can keep style.
I have seen dogs with more style than men.
Although not many dogs have style.
    Cats have it with abundance.

When Hemingway put his brains to the wall with a shotgun, that was style.
For sometimes people give you style.
    Joan of Arc had style.
    John the Baptist.
    Jesus.
    Socrates.
    Caesar.
    García Lorca.
I have met men in jail with style.
I have met more men in jail with style than men out of jail.
Style is a difference, a way of doing, a way of being done.
Six herons standing quietly in a pool of water, or you, walking
out of the bathroom without seeing me.

Just watching that clip they have this scene from the Untouchables on the side, love this movie so much, this scene with Connery and Andy Garcia is electric

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz4_fb6-_F0&feature=related

But the best speech in that film is this one, fucking brilliant scene, dialogue and acting!

    +++++

"You said you wanted to get Capone. Do you really wanna get him? You see what I'm saying is, what are you prepared to do?"

    "Anything within the law."

"And *then* what are you prepared to do? If you open the can on these worms you must be prepared to go all the way. Because they're not gonna give up the fight, until one of you is dead"

"I want to get Capone! I don't know how to do it"

"You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That's* the *Chicago* way! And that's how you get Capone. Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I'm offering you a deal. Do you want this deal?"

"I have sworn to capture this man with all legal powers at my disposal and I will do so"

"Well, the Lord hates a coward"

[jabs Ness with his hand, and Ness shakes it]

"Do you know what a blood oath is, Mr. Ness?"

    "Yes"

"Good, 'cause you just took one"

    "deliver us from eva "

"I would say that I find your particular brand of crack amusing. This isn't about a book versus a football game, fellas.
Oh, no. This is about men versus women.
Women who aspire to culture and men who aspire to scratch themselves.
Women who bear the burdens in life and men who create those burdens.
Women who uplift humanity and men who uplift lap dances.
If society were left to the whims of men, we'd still be in caves carving pictures with our non-opposable thumbs. So, today gentlemen, is a day for civilized behavior. Today we women raise our voices against tyranny, crudeness and play-off games.
And that is it, gentlemen. End of story.
    The fat lady is singing!
Out of the room. By the way, if any of that was lost upon you, then I've just proven my point again. Excuse me"
