Any current(ish) Arabic language students/teachers out there?

In a previous life, I put myself through a degree in Arabic, but have done absolutely nothing with it since. My skill fade is so great that I've probably forgotten most of the Arabic I ever learned. Anyway, I'd now like to get back in the game, so to speak.

Now, I know all too well that there is absolutely no substitute for vocab learning; that said, can any of you recommend any books on grammar? What're they using to teach the subject these days?

Not sure what your level is, so I don't know if this is good enough or not, but this is the series used at all schools I've studied at for non-Arab students of Arabic:

TBH, I think the best way to learn any language is through immersion. Try watching Spacetoon or JCC They're for kids, but hey, whatever it takes, right?

Thanks for the links, Harakaat. Reading school textbooks should be a novel experience, but if that's what it takes..

Most of the teaching materials I encountered all those years ago were produced by the University itself - the only non-locally produced material being both volumes of Abboud et al's Elementary Modern Standard Arabic, used in the first year. I appear to have lost my copies, but seem to remember them being somewhat narcolepsy-inducing outside a classroom.
