    The world is what it is. It has always been this way. As much as we struggle to ameliorate it, there will always be suffering. All we can do collectively is to try and create the conditions for a just, benign society that shows tenderness to the weak and tends to the sick, the elderly, the frail and children. Whatever we have in England today is the result of hundreds of years of struggle to privelige this idea over all others. But we live in an imperfect society, and an imperfect world, in imperfect bodies that betray us eventually.

    Individually all we can do is love our family and friends and have moments of happiness with them. Thats the most any of us can ever hope for. Its only when you don't have those moments that you realise how immense, and complete to our existence they are.

    Focus on those moments and life doesn't seem like a purposeless cruelty. It seems hopeful and tender.
