Fara it sounds to be like you're talking about cheating rather than being promiscuous.  Which I agree with.

I will tell you what I think of Promiscuity.

The only people who can get away with it are men since society places so little judgement upon a man if he chooses to sleep around a whole lot.  if a woman is promiscuous you enter that whole madonna/whore arena in which the majority of men are too insecure to deal with the idea that they are not the first or at least a few steps down that post of notches on a woman's bed.

I think there is nothing wrong with single people sleeping around if they want, or those in relationships in which an agreement has been made, what i hate is the gender arguement that really exists behind these questions.  Can a woman be promiscuous and still find "the one" who won't feel weakened by her past?  I would say rarely personally.

Judgements get made, assumptions laid down and her respect shrivels away.

At this stage in my life my negative body image won't even let me have sex with 1 person let alone multiple partners and fun, plus I'm tired of the emptiness sex with someone meaningless brings.  So for me, just about everything on a personal level is wrong with being promiscuous.  But I honestly have no care what people do with their sexual choices.  Just wish the world would stop making judgements based on sex between 2 consenting adults.  It is such a stupid marker to judge a person with.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

I agree with you on that, its mostly has to do with men's insecurity.

Yeah, i still dont understand this gender hypocrisy, if a man sleeps around with a lot of women, he will be praised for being stud or playa or whatever any positive term they see fit but if its a woman she will be called with a derogatory words such as "whore","hoe", "bitch","slut" etc. Like you said it mostly stem from insecurities. Thats what intrigues me more

Maybe I am predictable or boring, but I really prefer to be with one partner that I fall in love with instead of having multiple partners simultaneously, I don't think am the only one on here who thinks this way.  But each to their own, you can always pretend that having multiple partners at the same time (without them knowing of your other partners) doesn't hurt anyone, but I see this to be some kind of deceit, if you are open and tell them openly that you are sleeping with other people, and they accept it, then that's fine.

But for me, no, firstly I'd respect my partner too much to do this to them, and I certainly don't want anyone to do it to me .

Now am regretting I ever replied to this thread...

Oh no, Fara7 that statement wasnt meant for you at all and believe me i had no intention of being disrespectful to you. I just find your short reply funny but thats no excuse for me to act that way. Im sorry if i offended you in any way.

Also i think you got me wrong, when i mentioned promiscuity i was only talking about being one while single not if one is in exclusive relationship or marriage.

I don't think promiscuous is the right word for that. I rather think the scientific term "loser" is more appropriate.

    Do you find it immoral?

Of course not. For men or women.

But it doesn't work for me, as sex is totally bound up with my emotions.

I think Promiscuity does not foster long term trusting relationships.

It doesnt, but why stigmatize the person if he/she choose to be promiscous?

Because it affects our well being.

But if we already have enough not necessarily romantic trusting relationships, and we just wanna fuck, is that going to have a hugely adverse effect on our wellbeing?

    Why?

Because thats what you want and nothing more or buy yourself a orgasmotron.
What you want is mechanical relief - why involve a another human being.

And if you dont care and they dont care. And you just fuck then its all mechanical anyway.

So we are back to trusting  and caring relationships which builds up future trusting bonds between inividuals...

In my opinion, men who sleep around a lot should be deemed sluts too, we have words to describe those that eat too much, drink too much, there should be words for those who sleep around too much.

Evolutionary speaking, men are generally evolved to spread their seed as far and wide as possible, whilst women are evolved to be choosier, more selective, perhaps this goes a little way into explaining why the attitudes are different towards the different genders.

I would state that it is a given, that men do have a greater sex drive than women, I refuse to believe that women play with theselves as much as men do. Lol. Other evidence may be the fact that gay men are more promiscious than straight men - to me that means generally men have the higher sex drive.

Greater emphasis should be placed on men not to fuck out of turn - just like Muslim men forget the verse preceeding in the Quran concerning women and their modesty - there is a verse that states something along the lines of men keeping their gaze down. If they did that there would be fewer incidences of gender disharmony.

Also imo the 'media' is a dirty old man and hand in hand with capitalist/consumer society promotes promiscuity as a lifestyle, imo it's another money earner, more of an earner than marriage is.

Note that I say media and not necessarily western society, the difference in 30 years that sex has played on our screens maybe one of the reasons muslims don't feel a part of British culture, imo they would have felt more part of the culture thirty years ago.

I dont want to come across all prudish but imo this sexualisation of society so to speak seeps into the young and children. In the mid-eighties, I watched Police Academy, it was rated 15, it had a two second clip of a topless babe on the beach, that's it, nowadays - in an effort to make money way more sex/nudity is allowed for the same classifiaction. Evidence of earlier sexualisation and dont get me started on MTV. Lol

What consenting adults do in their bedroom is no one's business and people have every right to be promiscuous as is the right to not be.

Lol, to be serious, if I read what i have written above, twenty years ago, I would have thought old man has had his fun and wants to spoil my fun. Ideally consenting adults should be allowed - but what if they married to different people or cheating?

I know I am taking it to the extreme, but this thing about consenting adults being allowed all and sundry, there have been some adults who have consented to being killed and eaten. (I am not equating promiscuity to cannabilism)

There is nothing 'immoral' about people cheating on each other. It's in poor taste and reflects badly on your personal principles, but people are free to do as they wish. And of course they have to deal with the good and bad consequences from their actions. That is life and the responsibility of being an adult.

And what is wrong about adults consenting to being killed and eaten? It's not something that is most people's cup of tea, but every individual has the freedom to decide what they want to do with their body and life. And if they have consented to cannibalism, how does it affect YOU in any way?

And how does that affect YOU?

Are YOU going to be killed and eaten? No.
Are YOUR rights being infringed on? No.

So I fail to see what the problem is.

I suppose it is the difference between individual rights over social order perhaps. The natural drift from left to right as one grows older lol.

No, it seems to be a drift towards wanting everyone to conform to ones view of how things should be. Which is in the same league as the religions nutters wanting gays killed and women covered up from head to toe, albeit less extreme.

I still fail to see how consenting acts affect your notion of 'social order'. When violence or harm is inflicted on unconsenting beings - human or animal, that should be a cause for concern.
