KINGSTON, Ont. — It’s the Canadian Maple Leaf that flies high over the picturesque locks at Kingston Mills near this historic city, but on the night of June 30, 2009, it might just as well have been the black-red-and-green flag of Afghanistan, with its sacred line proclaiming the greatness of Allah.

What happened at the locks that night, Crown prosecutors alleged in Ontario Superior Court Thursday, was a so-called “honour killing,” the culmination of a violent misogynist Afghan culture that had been transplanted holus-bolus years earlier into the heart of central Canada.

“May the devil s— on their graves,” Mohammad Shafia told his second wife, Tooba Mohammad Yahya, 20 days after the bodies of the couple’s three teenage daughters and Mr. Shafia’s first wife were recovered from a car in the water at the locks.

Found dead by drowning in a black Nissan Mr. Shafia had bought just eight days earlier – the suggestion implicit that he got it for that very purpose — were Rona Amir Mohammad, the barren wife who had been presented to the children and outsiders both as an “auntie,” and rebellious daughters Zainab, 19, Sahar, 17, and 13-year-old Geeti.

Charged with four counts each of first-degree murder are Mr. Shafia, Ms. Yahya and their oldest son Hamid, who was 18 at the time. All are pleading not guilty.

The ghastly conversation was captured on a Kingston Police wiretap, prosecutor Laurie Lacelle told Judge Robert Maranger and a jury.

In another snippet recorded by the device police had placed in a family car, Mr. Shafia told Ms. Yahya, “They committed treason themselves. They betrayed humankind. They betrayed Islam. They betrayed our religion…they betrayed everything.”

He said whenever he saw the pictures taken by Zainab and Sahar on their cell phones – these were goofy shots of them posing in bras and panties, or with their forbidden boyfriends — “I am consoled.

“I say to myself, ‘You did well.’ Were they to come to life, I would do it again.”

Further down in the article it says, that the girls had sought help from the authorities to no avail. On one occasion they were interviewed with their parents present. 015

I hope they get found not guilty, then vigilantes kidnap them and bury them alive (except maybe the son who may have been forced by his father to do it-- be humane and just put a bullet in the back of his head).

I also believe people have freedom of choice and free will but feel they will have natural results for their actions. Teenage girls who pose in their panties an bra and secret boyfriends they grow up. They look back and laugh about being young and their changing body and lament the had to keep the boyfriend a secret . They should not be murdered by their Dad or any one else. The punishment is way to harsh for silliness.

I'm trying real hard to apply what you've said in some sane way to the account about the murder of these three women.

I just can't seem to do it.

Can you clarify what you meant?

I think you will find that most honour killings in western countries and killings at the hands of violent ex partners is done even after the vicitims have tried to get help.

Its beyond fucking ridiculous that they still aren't listening, still won't do anything.  More often than not someone who has the sort of father/brother/family or ex that would kill them, KNOWS they would do it, why won't they listen to them?

a 2 different periods in my life I have been forced to remain in an abusive situation to wait for a bigger attack.  When i was a young girl I would be sent back to my parents because a body full of bruises is not enough, there needs to be more.....and then there was more.  The second period was with my ex husband, a few times when I called the police I was told that they needed more.  they would not help me because he was smarter with his abuse and didn't often leave the evidence needed for charges to be pressed.  The few times he did were the few times I was too scared to go to the police.

It's always got to be the final blow.

A friend on mine, the police knew he was coming after her.  He hadn't stopped telling everyone in prison and the guards that he "was gonna get that bitch", and yet still on the day of his release, even though she warned them, he headed straight over to her place and beat her for 30 minutes straight before anyone arrived to help.  Broke her jaw, her nose, ribs, the bone right under her eye, all whilst their 1yr old hid under the table watching it.

Because the police failed in their duty whe was awarded compensation but they can't fix her scars, or stop her nightmares, or fix her son.

And for these girls in this story, prison, or even death for their killers won't compensate these girls for the loss of their life.  It can't.  they are dead.  They didn't get to survive the authorities mistakes.

I wish I could understand why the simple threat can't be enough to prevent stuff.  Why must people in danger be sent back to the danger zone over a lack of proof in these situations where it is fucking known a mistake will cost lives?  finmad

Even if life long imprisonment doesn't change their deaths though, I still hope they get sent down.  Bastards.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

Yes I know and it really angers me.

In Denmark at the moment we have a case, not an honour killing, but pedophilia. A forty year old man is accused of raping numerous girls, some as young as four years old, since the late eighties and during the nineties. When teenagers some of the girls met him and in July 2001 reported him to the Police, who took depositions and video interviewed the girls and other witnesses. However, the conclusion was that there was not enough evidence to indict him.

He subsequently moved to another part of the country where in 2008 he was again reported to the Police. This time the case was dropped, according to the police, because of lack of substance. You´d have thought, that if they had done a little investigating and found that he had been reported earlier in a different part of the country, then maybe just maybe there was some truth in what was being reported. His own daughter was one of his victims.

At his daughter´s 12 years birthday he abused one of her friends (11 years old) kissed her genitals and behind and finally cut her thigh with a knife and threatened her that if she said anything to anybody he would rape her and kill her family.

Just think how many little girls could have been spared if they had taken the first report seriously.

What a tragedy. The fact that nothing was really done despite multiple pleas for help is just wrong. Yet, this always seems to be the case. At what point do they need to take it seriously before it goes too far? I'm no expert on the matter but it seems like a no brainer what needs to be done.

well that case is back in the news

In an interrogation after her arrest, Tooba Mohammad Yahya told police they were at the scene that night, but that after hearing a splash she fainted and didn’t know what happened.

    Quote
KINGSTON, ONT.—A woman accused of killing her three daughters and her husband’s other wife says so-called honour killings are a new concept for her.

Tooba Yahya, 42, is testifying in her own defence in Kingston, Ont., where she is on trial for murder along with her husband and son.

They’re accused of killing three teenage Shafia sisters — Zainab, Sahar and Geeti — along with the father’s first wife in a polygamous marriage over family honour.

She told court today that she had never in her life heard about so-called honour killings, including in the 21 years she lived in Afghanistan.

The bodies were found in a car at the bottom of a canal in Kingston on June 30, 2009, when the Montreal family was heading home after a trip to Niagara Falls, Ont.

In an interrogation after her arrest, Yahya told police they were at the scene that night, but that after hearing a splash she fainted and didn’t know what happened.

Today she testified that when they were arrested she thought her son Hamed would be tortured so she made that up to get him out of trouble.

Yahya, Mohammad Shafia, and their 21-year-old son, Hamed, have each pleaded not guilty to four counts of first-degree murder...

off course she never heard that in that brutal land.. It is not honor killing ., it is called punishment of near & dear to the death and Guardians/parents/brother/uncles are allowed to do that ..

A Canadian court does something right for once!

Good riddance to these animals. Hope it sends a message to all the musulmans and dippers that Canada is on to you and you can expect 25 years of gang rape from your friendly hell angels inmates if you pull this shit.

25 years is of course not enough for these apes, especially the dad and son. I would see the Tooba (the mom) as a victim if she confessed and showed remorse... but she had two years to think about it but stuck by her son and husband. I think it's fairly clear the son did most of the dirty work, like in a lot of honor killing cases. I would feel a bit of sympathy since he is young and is probably heavily brain-washed.. but he also had two years to mull over what he did and still stuck to the lies. And the dad, I hope he enjoys his regular rectal exams until his last dying breath in prison. Fucker.

Finally, immigration really needs to start cultural screenings and re-education before letting savages into this country.
