If you're primarily referring to the slave trade between Africa and the US, then you have to take into account that that vast majority of those slaves were captives taken and sold by other black Africans.
IOW, the problem was not just "modernist, white, male philosophy that does not recognize other cultures as civilizations". It was equally tribal, black philosophy that did not recognise members of other tribes as being human beings who deserved equal rights.
That attitude is still prevalent in parts of Africa to this day, and you cannot blame it on the legacy of white colonialism, because it existed well before white colonialism.
