     Cheesy

I can understand some of the enhancements, but the airbrushing... does anyone find a woman more attractive when her skin looks like that Huh? Just comes across as cold and artificial to me.

    Me too!

I've always thought it would be a nice idea to have studios where you can waltz in and have a sexy makeover without it costing an arm and a leg... get a few photos taken that you can keep for yourself or hang on your wall Grin

    015

     Cheesy

Philosophical and ethical debates aside, I think it's normal to want to look pretty and flawless and desirable - at least from a woman's perspective... dunno about men, guess they have the same human wants too... not about looking pretty, maybe more like Arnie Grin

I am not feminine, don't often wear nice clothes and pretty clueless about makeup. I've gone through my entire life this way.
However, when I had a trial makeover done before my wedding and had a few second glances from men and women while walking down the street, I can't describe what a bloody awesome that feeling was! I think my self esteem shot up to astronomical levels, I walked with my head held high and felt I could seduce anyone I wanted Grin

I can see how people can get addicted to it and made me understand why some women refuse to leave the house without make up on. If we all had the money and a personal stylist, we'd all look and feel like a million bucks. I suppose it might be short lived though because once the novelty wears off, you'd go back to feeling 'blah'... but it would be quite a lot of fun while it lasted lol

I once won a make over photography shoot.

1 - only 1 or 2 pics came out nice.

2 - ^^ only because I made them wipe off the clown make up that didn't match my skin.

3 - Never even bought the pics because it was 100 quid for one mini photo.  The shoot was free but the shots were the scam.

But yeah, its amazing how great a good photoshoot and airbrushing can make a person look.  Images like this stare me in the face everyday. The lines between what is real as a beauty expectation and what isn't are so blurred that so many women are trying to be like a photoshot everyday, in the real world, without the airbrushing.

Now if only I could translate all of this into a workable shift in my own head that makes me stop judging myself for not being able to live up to those ideals everyday.

That would be a great lesson.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

it's photoshop. the point is that our beauty ideals don't exist in real life, they're virtual constructions, and are all made to fit a certain standard.

of course there's nothing wrong with wanting to look good, but this shows that our ideals are unattainable. no wonder so many people have low self-esteem.

There is something to the photography as well. I can work wonders with a decent shot in PS, but if the lighting/focus/angles are wrong, the pic can be irretrievable

I've been driven mad trying to prove my sanity

I know there are these photoshopped pictures, but its not just seeing those and wanting to be like that...most time it's by seeing REAL women out there in the world, who look 'wow' when you see them....so it's not all our 'ideals' and from photoshopped pictures, of course your 'definition' of beauty can be influenced by that, but what I'm trying to point out is that it's not all about aspiring to these false pictures you see, but it's also about seeing real women in the world who look a million times better than you.

^and that comes from globalisation as well, in small villages the highest level of beauty may not have been that much different from the average woman's look, or there may have been one or two standing out beauties.

But with globalisation and the media focusing and highlighting those of the highest level beauty, or trying to and defining that level etc etc, you get this distorted desire/aspiration to be like those women who 'have it all' - happiness, the man, the lifestyle etc.

    And now with globalisation there's more potential partners to choose from the competition level goes up too, and with a culture of more liberal views in terms of having short term bf/gfs etc the stability of relationships is more shaky;

ETA: including increasing social situation of women/men interactions also adds to that

I agree on the fact that REAL women are more attractive, but women themselves are influenced by a perception of what us men want, primarily fuelled by magazines. Very often I look at those claimed to be at the highest level of beauty and shake my head.. I see better looking women just walking down the high street here in murky Weston super Mud than the vast majority who grace the pages of those magazines aimed at telling women what they want to look like.

I've been driven mad trying to prove my sanity

the problem with people you see as more attractive than you is that you see them as more attractive due to a construct. why are certain looks more attractive? why are thinner women more attractive? why is straight hair more attractive? why is lighter skin more attractive? this is a construct.

i can tell you this about my personal opinion, but it speaks for a lot of guys as well:

    - many black, arab, etc girls think straight hair looks better. i disagree. natural hair tends to look better. i'm not saying just wake up, take a shower and leave the house. obviously it's normal for you to want to look presentable and take care of your hair, but keep your hair texture. frizzy hair can look fuckin sexy if taken care of. it beats the hell out of straightened african hair. same with arabs and wavy hair, etc. i see a lot of my female friends straightening their hair, but it really doesn't look as good as their natural texture. the same goes for straight hair. if your hair is straight, chances are, it's not gonna look good wavy. personal opinion, of course, but again, i think many guys agree.

    - the size of your boobs doesn't matter. boobs are boobs. and i'm not saying sometimes i ignore bad boobs and try to see other qualities, i actually don't care. even when i watch porn i enjoy different sizes. i'm not going to lie and say i like all boobs equally, but chances are, your boobs are alright

    - same goes for asses. asses come in different shapes and sizes, and many are hot/cute/adorable or whatever.. either way, i find many attractive.

    - also, tummy/weight. it's not the end of the world if you have a bit of extra weight. in fact i find it can be really really really cute if a girl has a bit of a tummy. and i don't mean "oh she's cute but i wouldnt really fuck her," i mean i actually watch porn of girls of different sizes. and i can't even decide which i prefer.

    - the most important point is that it's not about any individual part of your body, it's about how that part fits YOU. you can't compare yourself to someone else because that person isn't you, and their body does not come together the way yours does. different looks work on different people. i have a friend who was really obsessed about how fat she was, and i mean she was pretty overweight, but i thought she was really hot. i'm not saying all girls are attractive, because obviously that's not how attraction works, or that i don't care about looks, because i do, but it's not about types or models.

    - it's not the end of the world if you have a big nose, or big ears. it's really hard to explain, but imperfections are attractive.

    - chances are, there is someone somewhere out there who saw you and is depressed about not having this or that body part like yours.
