addiction religion and pregnancy stress

i haven't done my research, but was wondering what you guys thought.

i heard somewhere, that people with mothers that experienced stress during pregnancy, had a bigger chance of becoming alcoholics, there is a correlation between addiction and religious faith in my opinion, and so in a sort of vicious circle type thing, is it possible that the stress lvls of women in highly religious countries contributes to the high levels of religiosity.

Can you explain how?

I'm a smoker, weed and regular, but I'm not religious so I'd be interested to read how you are linking the two.

heroin is the opiate of the elite, it's too expensive for most people. religion is more affordable.

I think you may need to redefine the word 'elite' to include a slightly unusual demographic.

Prices have started to climb of late due to supply constriction, but they were quite low until fairly recently.

michelle.. i dont think its restricted to pregnant mothers.
from experience, i know i threw myself deeper into religion
the more stressed I was, thinking it was my fault shit happened
which caused me to be stressed. But the more hardcore I became,
the more stressed I got. Vicious cycle for damned sure. And I
wasnt pregnant. Also, with the exception of some women/children
in afghanistan who drink opium in their tea to try to overcome their
feelings of despodency, i dont know of any other group of women who
turn to drugs/alcohol as a means to cope.

edit: that last comment talking about groups of women who are
religious/pious.

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.

Correlation is a bad word, i didn't mean that, i meant addiction and religious belief have similar characteristics. For a native English speaker my vocab is astoundingly awful.

Alcohol, drugs, they blur reality and can make it seem easier to cope with life. We all have our vises, and we all have them to different degrees, we don't indulge them all when we do and we don't all fall victim to abusing them either. Quite similar to different extremes of religiosity in the world.

Jinn and Tonic, what i meant was, I heard somewhere that, if a child is in the womb, while the mother is for whatever reason stressed, when the child grows up, he/she is supposedly more susceptible to addiction. To clarify, the same vid i watched said that when a mother is starving during pregnancy, if the child survives and then grows up in a society of abundance then he/she will have weight issues.

Is it possible in extremely religious parts of the world, where women might be put under stress during pregnancy, in a viscous cycle, be producing people more susceptible to addiction, and the one most readily available be religion.
