    3 and 7 are about 45 minutes. The rest, less than 15 minutes.

    HA! I knew I was right!  I LOVE Washington with every fiber of my being.  LOL.  If you can wake up to that kind of beauty everyday, you are a lucky man.

    It's on my bucket list to live in Roslyn WA someday, even if only for like a month.  Gawd I love that place.

    1996 eh? Lots of towns like that here. You could probably visit one a week for 40 years and never hit them all.


    Because it was the place where they filmed the exterior scenes for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Exposure.

    And I wondered if you were one of those fans like they get for Forks, Washington. Where they set the Twilight movies. Was through there recently. Stopped for gas and food. The sheer number of emo kids, and vampire/book fans is....ew. It's not a quiet, lovely little town, anymore. It's more like one of those tourist traps in Florida.

    Sad to hear what happened to Forks.  all that fame for such a shitty movie.  it's not fair.  lol

    but Twin Peaks and N.E. were AWESOME...totally fame worthy destinations

    More people on trampolines.

    Here, I used a variable ND filter to filter out as much of the ambient light as possible, but I get the feeling that this picture will only really work on a larger scale:



    Here, I was using a borrowed Lensbaby Composer. The company that produce it say that you won't get the same shot twice. They're not technically correct, but it is an awkward bugger to focus, and adjusting the plane of focus is trickier than it looks. Still, you get some fun effects, if you're not afraid of the distinctly lo-fi aesthetic:

    So it turns out that developing your own B&W film might *look* easy, but I don't think I've got the hang of it yet.


    Spot the line passing through the frame.. DOH.


    The spots came out in development. Either that or the wall had chickenpox when I wasn't looking.


    All that nice detail, and it's been somewhat ruined by yet more spotting. Shame.

    How (the fuck) do you take dawn shotz without the auto settings borking it? The sunrise this morning is particularly gorgeous, so I thought I'd try taking a pic. The colours are stuffed. Tongue

    Depends on which bit of the dawn you're concentrating on.

    I'm guessing that for a landscape, you'd stick it on a tripod, and in manual mode: ISO to lowest figure your camera can manage, shutter speed of 20-30 seconds, and stop down to as small an aperture as the lens allows.

    If it's for the sunrise, use much (much) shorter exposure times?

    (I'm assuming you're after one shot rather than something bracketed which a bit of PS work could bring together).

    Sun was still below the horizon, so glare wasn't the problem. More a matter of capturing the colour gradients in the lighter parts of the sky, without making the other parts of the scenery look like a black hole.

    OK, this sounds like HDR might be a plan. At its most basic, a simple recipe would have you take 3 shots with the same exposure time, but different f stops.

    Assuming that 2 stops either way will be sufficient, and figures for illustration - 20 seconds at f/5.6, 20 seconds at f/11, 20 seconds at f/22?

    The idea's that one's underexposed, one's about right, and one's overexposed - theory for GIMP users (I'm assuming you like your OSS) here (better sites are probably available).
