this is for the hiphopheads, no wack shit

post your faves, the creme da la creme of hip hop/rap grin12

    let us discuss,

    format:

    album

    track

    collaboration(feat)

    prod/mastered

    Fusion is acceptable

Nothing in this world pleases me more than a hip hop album I can listen track by track from beginning to end. Oh that too on vinyl! Wow! I want to bite it with my teeth and use it as a pillow to sleep with!

Souls of Mischief ~ 93 'til Infinity

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/93_til_Infinity

This album is like my safely guarded, tightly kept secret. Precious. I dont like to share it with just about anyone because I cherish it so much, this album is so good I cant get over how good it is. Unbelievable. It is one of the albums that made my heart love Hip Hop more than any woman ever could. To me its on up there with Liquid Swords and Illmatic, no doubt.

Its the very definition of golden age hip hop. The obscure jazz samples with hard hitting basslines and beats, the cypher-like line up and style of rap delivery, the adroitly structured complex lyricism, astute evocation of the affairs of their region at the time, the mood of the entire album; pure pleasure and nostalgia. These guys were geniuses.

You can literally study their lyricism. Tightly coiled wordplay grained with complexity, flawless articulation, potent syncopation. One word: masterpiece. Its a pity they didnt get the recognition they deserved. Or maybe those who dug them felt like me too, too good to share with all ears.

I can't decide which track is better over another. But the title track sums up the album and what hip hop/rap stands for. No tribute to hip hop can be well paid without playing this at the end. And it echoes my sentiments of Hip Hop... 93 till... Infinity. Indeed. Hip Hop ya dont stop! On and on goes the tick and the tock and it will never ever not!

Above the Law ~ Livin' Like Hustlers

Cold187um is there in my list as being one of my favourite rappers. Possibly amongst my most favourite from the West Coast and most favourite Gangsta Rapper. His lyrics are the most complex of all Gangsta rappers. His flow is hard to match. In some tracks his rhyme schemes are highly diverse which means that he has to have multiple flow patterns. And yet he can rap smooth as well in some tracks inspite having differing flow patterns. His place in the history of rap is crucial as being amongst the pioneers of the G-Funk sound and the development of Gangsta Rap. He comes across as a Gangsta rapper even without having to possess overinflated personna or make use of thug clothing to bolster his image (cough... Tupac.. cough)

The sounds of Above the Law is similar to NWA but the album showcases a greater variety. And the track I like most is 'Untouchable'. 'Murder Rap' has the rawness of 'Fuck tha Police', 'Alwayz into Somethin' ' and 'Straight outta Compton' but I prefer it over them.

Too bad he chose to blow up mainstream but then again he wouldnt probably have been able to have shown us his talent because it was Dre who saw the best in him and made him bring that out.

Eminem has always wanted to be famous. Thats why he made his first studio album. But I think it was already forseeable that he would reach to great heights. Its just such a waste that he wasnt able to contribute to the underground. Another rapper wasted. Though even in all his work he's still pretty technical though. And he's hinted at the fucked up pulling of strings in the industry in the Eminem show.

    AFRIKAAA!!

these African rappers are better than the American ones, lets deport all the wack American ones to Antartica and import these guys to substitute their place

the Nigerian rappers are fucking good, Nigerians speak really good English so Im not too suprised with their vocabulary and their fluency, but their styles are interesting and theyre alot more fly

Im sorry Naija but Ghana was sicker, they had the wickedest flows

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjD28xyKzCs

and in contrast UK was terrible, they sound like retards, what a shame considering they hail from the very land indigenious to the English language, not to mention they sound like wussies with their accent, no flow at all. Booo!!

I wouldnt call it "finest", good but not great, the first guy with his gritty voice sounds really nice though. He should do rap rock. Improve his singing ability if he hasnt. I'll place tracks like that as "decent hip hop of today". To be "finest" it has to have something special. When youre done listening, youll still be left with it simmering you.

now this is what I will place on a high level in today's game

Jay-Z's first LP Reasonable doubt is the best hip hop LP IMO.

Sophisticated wordplay, inimitable flow, incredible depth... dude makes me feel empathy for playboy drug dealers lol.

    What strangestdude said in addition to that, Jay-Z is a businessman not a rapper in the class of Nas,Eminem,2pac,Rakim and others(they are many good rappers in the game) if you have listened to "Moment of Clarity" you will find a part where he says;

"I dumb down for my audience/and double my dollars/They criticize me for it/Yet they all yell "holla"/If skills sold/Truth be told/ I'd probably be/Lyrically/ Talib Kweli/ Truthfully/ I wanna rhyme like Common Sense/ (But i did five mil)/ I aint been rhymin like Common since

Not only this, there are many tracks where he has mentioned that he is a businessman rapping about business.if you look at his discography he started well with a classic album named "Reasonable Doubt" but then went commercial(relating to the lyrics i quoted) by hooking up with Puff Daddy though he still made some dope tracks until the Blueprint, thats when he came back true to himself.he tells his life stories through his rap and he does it uniquely.

What strangestdude said in addition to that,

Jay Z, just like Em, copied every fucking person before him. His flow isnt '"inimitable" like 'strangestdude' said. But just like Em, Jay Z knew how to... copy well. But Em is better because Em works on pushing the boundaries of rap and takes it to higher levels. Jay Z just wanted to be paid well from the start. He wanted to be successful. And that passion was his only drive.

    Quote
    Jay-Z is a businessman

And that too is a copy. (Not that there is anything wrong with that) The personality/philosophy he embraced is called 'mafiosa rap'. Luxury, extravagance, fine wine etc

    Quote
"I dumb down for my audience/and double my dollars/They criticize me for it/Yet they all yell "holla"/If skills sold/Truth be told/ I'd probably be/Lyrically/ Talib Kweli/ Truthfully/ I wanna rhyme like Common Sense/ (But i did five mil)/ I aint been rhymin like Common since

In other words giving up his talent and artistry just to make hits. Or 'selling out'.

    Quote

The only argueably "unique" thing about him is; his cleverness in using his music ability to getting himself paid very well. And thats not a 'cleverness' I admire. And he's not a fucking boss. Cameljoe is yet another dick sucking puppet of the system.

Quote from: Jay Z ~ On to the Next One
You gon' have another drink or you just gon' baby-sit
On to the next one, somebody call the waitress
Baby I'm a boss, I don't know what they do
    I don't get dropped
    , I drop the label

"you gon have another drink or you just gon baby sit"

Refers to those who work for the men running the industry meeting up with artistes and proposing contracts to sign that suits the agendas of the men running the music industry. "Having another drink" means accepting the contract and them ordering another round(presumably to toast) to signify it. "Baby sit" means not accepting the offer. Or mulling with the same glass over having not accepted it.

"I dont know what they do, I don't get dropped"

'they' being the men who run the industry. "I dont get dropped" meaning he gets to keep on making music/stay at the top of the charts so long as he plays to their tunes.

That faggot deserves no place in this thread.

Opinions arent all the same. My opinions arent empty opinions. Im giving you evidence from his own lyrics about what hes about(which you seem to accept as you yourself had quoted some other lyrics in congruence with what I state) and breaking down his "talent". Im not stopping you from listening to his shitty music. Whatever you like is your own fancy. Im just telling why, with reasons, he doesnt belong as "rap's finest".
