I don't really listen to much of it but I like what Madlib did with his Bollywood crate-digging adventure:
lol hilarious the way you put it, thats exactly what I fear the most. Having to go through massive catalogues of bollywood songs to pick out something nice. Thats something I dont want to have to undergo. Haha
Ok I'd say way too bolly bolly sounding tunes wont be nice. The one by Digital Underground imo is perfect. Thats type of sound Im going for.
Call me demented but when Im listening to some G-Funk tracks I get the feeling that the tune is rather Indic too. But I think thats because alot of Western music/techniques were combined and used for making Indian pop songs.
fucker A R Rahman stole alot, his only asset is he knew how to combine Western music to produce songs that would sell well in the Indian market
(wholesale theft from Michael Jackson on this one)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHKf_HS9PucIf this instrumental was altered even slightly and had Indian vocals over it, it would just be any ordinary South Indian song from the early 90s (not kidding)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ht_BQUMP48And also 'the Next Episode' by Dre uses bhangra as its base
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crdp30kRG3UJay Z made a version where he rapped over the club classic 'Mundian Tu Bach Ke'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KD9Bsjiw3CIalso Snap did a bhangra version of his hit 'The Power'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDWzXM8te1knot my cup of tea, I dont really like the use of bhangra
On a side note, though possibly useful to the discussion, some japanese music goes well with hip hop
