  • Indic Hip Hop beats? Your thoughts?
     OP - December 23, 2011, 07:23 AM

What are your thoughts? what about those of you with selective taste arx? naija?

Ive been checking this shit out. What I can say tho that to me it sounds hard. Couldnt have forseen this myself. But theres just something about Indic melody sampled with heavy beats that goes hard.

rather crunked out WSHH type beats

the instrumental (I didnt realize how much Yelawolf did for the beat, its quite a hard beat to rap to)

I dont think the language is anything Indic but the tune sounds Indic and it wasnt just me there were people in the comment section that noted this as well

I don't really listen to much of it but I like what Madlib did with his Bollywood crate-digging adventure:

I saw him a few months back when he opened for Wu-Tang and he nearly got booed off the stage haha.  I liked that he didn't seem to give a shit even with bottles flung at him.

is only one defense: the creative act.

This was rehashed for Mos Def's Auditorium with the one and only Slick Rick.

I haven't thought about it that way but you're right, it seems to be the way it's universally used in hip hop.

lol of course hes a white trash wigga, hes definitely going to get a hard time. Especially with Wu Tang fans who tend to mainly be East Coast Underground cats.

lol hilarious the way you put it, thats exactly what I fear the most. Having to go through massive catalogues of bollywood songs to pick out something nice. Thats something I dont want to have to undergo. Haha

Ok I'd say way too bolly bolly sounding tunes wont be nice. The one by Digital Underground imo is perfect. Thats type of sound Im going for.

Call me demented but when Im listening to some G-Funk tracks I get the feeling that the tune is rather Indic too. But I think thats because alot of Western music/techniques were combined and used for making Indian pop songs.

fucker A R Rahman stole alot, his only asset is he knew how to combine Western music to produce songs that would sell well in the Indian market

(wholesale theft from Michael Jackson on this one)

If this instrumental was altered even slightly and had Indian vocals over it, it would just be any ordinary South Indian song from the early 90s (not kidding)

And also 'the Next Episode' by Dre uses bhangra as its base
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crdp30kRG3U

Jay Z made a version where he rapped over the club classic 'Mundian Tu Bach Ke'
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KD9Bsjiw3CI

also Snap did a bhangra version of his hit 'The Power'
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDWzXM8te1k

not my cup of tea, I dont really like the use of bhangra

On a side note, though possibly useful to the discussion, some japanese music goes well with hip hop
