  • Leather or fabric sofa?
     OP - January 08, 2012, 07:57 PM

We're currently looking for a sofa but I'm not sure what type to get. Leather sofas are easy to clean and don't get full of dust which is a huge plus. I love the look and feel of fabric sofas however, but I'm worried about how dirty they might get and how hard it is to clean them. I also have cats who moult like mad.

Any furniture owners have any advice on this matter?

I think leather sofas make more sense if you've got pets... How often do you have people over / parties etc?

I miss my fabric sofas to be honest, they were alot more comfortable.  These leather sofas look good, but are nowhere near as cosy as what I used to have.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

I prefer the look of fabric sofas, they look more cozy and they are comfier. However, wanky is right. My cats will ruin it in no time if I get fabric, and I'm lazy and hate cleaning. Shame.

Guess with a few cushions scattered hither and yon, it'll look ok.

If you're in the habit of sitting on furniture naked, leather furniture is a mixed blessing.

Give the cat a scratching post, or something else it is allowed and encouraged to rip up. Persuade it to leave the effin sofa alone, on pain of death. That's about the only thing that really works.

I've always preferred leather. But the quality of leather makes a big difference. You get a cheap leather sofa and it won't be as comfy as a fabric one-- but if you're willing to shell out the extra money a good leather sofa, in my personal opinion, can be even more comfy than a fabric one.

    fuck you

    Lol suppose so.

What's a good price for a leather sofa? We were thinking about £800 - £900 (as a 3 seater recliner)

Askin the wrong guy. I haven't been furniture shopping in ages, and I buy nice futons instead so it's easy if guests stay open to turn it into a bed and when the fabric gets too crappy I can just change the cover. Besides, just about everything is cheaper here than in the UK, so even if I had purchased one recently I couldn't give you a good price.

But a good rule of thumb is be willing to wait. Keep going to stores periodically and wait for them to cut the price on a sofa you like. A lot of furniture stores will slash prices on merchandise they have been unable to move. Sometimes that merchandise is good quality shit. Just gotta keep an eye out.

    fuck you

Look man I don't want to hear about your cats. You're pathetic, why do you even keep cats?

Anyway leather Sofas are better they look nice, and you can get really comfortable leather sofas.

Use Baseball bat on your cats if they try to ruin your sofa. That'll teach them.

Look at is this way, imagine I am super-superior to you, can I come from another plant, I look at you and take you as a pet to keep for my personal amusement and gratification. Animals need to be out in the wild, not caged up for human entertainment, and companionship.

You can use bitter apple spray to keep your cats off the sofa, or at least wherever they tend to scratch the most. Kitty might not want to sit around you when you're on there though...

Don't be an idiot, like these pet owners. The natural habitat for the animals is out in the wilderness, the only time animals should be in your house is when they're dead and you're going to consume them. They have to be killed in a humane way though. Not like what they do to those poor chickens, and cows. Sick bastards man.
