    @Cato
Being quiet about it was the right strategy. Now prepare to learn a life lesson that through failure comes success. You were not serious about it anyway, I mean just look at your avatar!

Btw, ppl in Japan smoke and live to 100 years or so, so don't buy into this big pharma propaganda of harmful tobacco. they just want you not to buy cigarettes so you have more money to spend on their pills that could kill you!

They live that long because of their diet ALM.
But it is also their downfall, cuz they have the highest
rate of stomach cancer b/c they eat alot of pickled
vegitables.  They also have a staggering rate of
alcoholism, as drinking together with co workers after
    work is pretty much mandatory.

I'll compete with you, paranoid! Prepare to win!

It was actually a great idea, people just did not realize that you base your ideas on the latest discoveries in the field of self help. It has now been shown that through failure comes real success and failure should be embraced. Above has been proved by great self help author Martha Beck who seems to work for Oprah herself! Anyone even remotely interested in self help should read the article below:

    http://www.oprah.com/spirit/10-Life-Lessons-You-Should-Unlearn-Martha-Beck-Life-Coach-Advice_1/1

And memorize it! @paranoid when you want the competition to begin? I was thinking about new years (Jan 1st 2013).

why Jan first 2013 Huh?,(are you preparing yourself for the challenge alm)
thanks for the link alm, i'm not finish reading it though, I'll do it today,

I accept your challenge, after reading Dr zhivago thread on quitting, give me inspirational to quit myself, got through 3 and a half, in those 3 day, my brain get locked up, reading people post give me uncromprehensible meaning, i have urges to post in my native language, thats when i start smoking again.

anyway congrat Dr zhivago on quitting, you're a living hero, to your families, friends, setting example for your children and people who think they want to.

Been off ciggarates for over 3 weeks now, went on a cold turkey.

    Day 43

Gets more easier than before,i dunno maybe its because i was only a regular smoker for 2 years. The noticeable difference was a sharp improvement of smell,no bitter taste on your mouth and saves your money.

It is very hard, but take it a day at a time you will get there and don't worry if you fall off the wagon, just make sure to get back on. My wife stopped for 2 months with me but started smoking again, but I encourage her and she will stop again when she is ready.

Quitting smoking can be one of the worst habits to quit cold turkey. So I really look up to the people who manage to do it. Congrats Dr_Zhivago.

If it is any motivation to quit smoking, or even stop starting it - a classmate of mine started when he was 13. He eventually went up to 2 packs a day when he was 16 and right now at 20 he's suffering from severe Emphysema. Poor guy has to carry around an inhaler and drastically limit his physical activity for his life. He can't dance for 10 or 15 minutes without having to stop and inhale.

I had another classmate who was a real jock in high school. This guy could run miles and marathons. He started smoking and lost all of his energy, even lost a lot of his muscle mass and is now thin as a stick.

Coming from a guy who's smoked a couple of times at parties and social gatherings, stay away from the smokers. If you are ever tempted to start, just know that you can probably outrun any regular smoker, you can work much harder than them and you're less stressed out than them.
