    S. Africa was banned because of the apartheid regime, for some reason people seem to think sexism isn't as bad as racism. Saudi has been participating in the Olympics since 1972 (according to wiki) so why now? At least now they have allowed a woman to participate in the youth games.

I wasn't aware that the ban was part of a movement for social and political change in Saudi Arabia. Can you tell me where this aim was stated by the IOC?

It isn't their aim. The lack of women participating in sports is a by-product of a much bigger problem. I don't care about the IOC, fact is if they apply the principles fairly (specifically No. 4) a lot of nations would be banned. Btw where was the IOC when the nazis only allowed "Aryans" only in the 1936 Olympics?  Roll Eyes Fuck the IOC.

Irrelevant straw-clutching. You're better than that.

Ban Saudi Arabia - they won't be missed, their athletes have a snowball's chance in hell in actually winning anything.

Also why did Qatar get the World Cup? Homosexuality is a criminal offence there. I wonder what will happen  if more International footballers came out of the closet - which at the moment is, unfortunately,  nil - by 2022 - will their HABs , husbands and boyfriends , be allowed to accompany them?

Like blatter said they should refrain from sexual activities  Cheesy FIFA are full of shit too, they banned the Iranian WOMENS team because they wore the hijab (more like a normal hat) because it violated a law about not having religious and political symbols. I guess FIFA officials have never looked at the Saudi, Israeli, Portuguese or Spanish football badges  whistling2

I didn't hear you complain about Russia, where things are so bad for ethnic minorities that the Armenian premier once had to ask the Russian government to take the regular racist murders of people from the Caucasus as a serious matter. How are all the foreigners in Russia going to feel safe from attack when ordinary non-Rus citizens can't!

I think that issue is more serious than Qatar.

    S. Africa was banned because of the apartheid regime, for some reason people seem to think sexism isn't as bad as racism.

Some people think the earth is 6,000 years old. Some people think the Jews engineered 9/11. Some people enjoy the Twilight movies. Some people are idiots.

Saudi has been participating in the Olympics since 1972 (according to wiki) so why now?

The reason Saudi Arabia is banned from the 2012 London Olympics is in the article on the first page.

    It isn't their aim.

And that's the way it should be. Ideally, the Olympic committee should stay out of politics. It should be politically impartial. However, that doesn't mean they cannot uphold their own principles within their own structural entity. They are sound principles, worth holding to and defending.

I don't care about the IOC, fact is if they apply the principles fairly (specifically No. 4) a lot of nations would be banned.

Ok, which other nations mode of participation in the 2012 Olympics would breach the Olympic Charter?

Btw where was the IOC when the nazis only allowed "Aryans" only in the 1936 Olympics?  Roll Eyes Fuck the IOC.

The 1936 Olympics were hosted in Berlin.

It is irrelevant but I'm going to continue to bring the monarchy thing up whenever I can  Smiley

I'm not sure what this means. Do you have some weird little personal issue with me because of my opinion on the British monarchy?

Femi-bitch ? Everyone I know hates Twilight. It's quite a mystery to me why exactly they hate it so much, but that's definitely in no way something specific to “femi-bitch”.
I, personally, think Cassidy pwns every other vampire character, the whole Twilight cast of course included Afro.

Olympic Charter is not a static document but rather a dynamic and frequently updated set of rules heavily influenced by contemporary ethical and moral standards.

You are comparing the world as it was in 1936 to the world that is today? In the same thread where you call other people 'retarded' for voicing an opinion that differs from your own? Seriously?
Every time when accusations regarding Mo's paedophilia come up you start explaining that the standards were different back then - which is actually something I quite agree on.

But then you completely fail to acknowledge that the world we live in today is in fact very different compared to the world that was 80 years ago.

Back then some of the prominent progressives of the time such as George Bernard Shaw promoted eugenics and 'humane killings":

Ah, good old GBS. Incidentally there is an apparent quote of his used by Dawah-gandists in which he expounds on the apparent greatness etc etc of Islam and Mo. I'm not sure if its invented or not, but if so, maybe it came from a, let us say, eccentric period of his thinking as when this great advice was being expounded.

At least he gave us what became the delightful 'My Fair Lady'

I've long thought that sexism and racism were exactly the same in terms of fundamental motivation. Both are an attempt to make yourself feel superior by putting down a bunch of people who are different.

They're not banned and won't be. A human rights report called for their banning, but as usual Saudi's human rights record is overlooked.

And that's the way it should be. Ideally, the Olympic committee should stay out of politics. It should be politically impartial.

    Agreed.

Ok, which other nations mode of participation in the 2012 Olympics would breach the Olympic Charter?

Not sure, judging from the list of participating countries, I'd say the likes of Afghanistan, Pakistan, UAE etc. assuming they don't let women participate, but then they'd yell Islamophobia or something so it'd never happen.

The 1936 Olympics were hosted in Berlin.

    And shouldn't have been.

I'm not sure what this means. Do you have some weird little personal issue with me because of my opinion on the British monarchy?

    Its not personal.

Well, I like comics, mainly those that are not supposed to be involved in a big “multiverse” stuff. Because all that bullcrap about putting very different characters in the same big story that runs for more than 50 years, completely unplanned, is pretty bad imho.

They're not banned and won't be. A human rights report called for their banning, but as usual Saudi's human rights record is overlooked.

Assuming they allow Dalma Rushdi Malhas to participate. If not, I can quite easily see a ban.

Not sure, judging from the list of participating countries, I'd say the likes of Afghanistan, Pakistan, UAE etc. assuming they don't let women participate, but then they'd yell Islamophobia or something so it'd never happen.

I don't think Pakistan, Afghanistan or UAE are restricting female athletes who would qualify or breaching the Olympic charter by other means. I'm pretty sure UAE are fielding female swimmers.

    And shouldn't have been.

Like Kenan said, it's nearly a century ago. Very different times and a very different committee with very different leanings. Irrespective of that, the 1936 Olympics were awarded to Germany years before Hitler's rise to power. You could argue that Germany should have forfeit their hosting privilege in light of it's condition in 1936, but that would only be a case for a German 'ban', not a case for allowing Saudi Arabia to participate. If you feel strongly that Germany breached the Olympic spirit, then apply that same reasoning consistently.

Question: Do you think there should be clear rules and regulations for participation in major international sports events or not?

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.
