    BTW, saw this on my fb feed, thought it was interesting. Within each state, there is actually a lot of variety, even this map doesn't come close. E.g.: In Minnesota, one district re-elected the vile, homophobic teabagger Michelle Bachman while the state voted in favour of same sex marriage.

    The real divide in American politics -- and I guess, everywhere --  isn't red states and blue states, it's rural vs urban. In deep blue states, in the more rural parts you'll find racist teabagger types in abundance. In deep red states, the cities are almost universally liberal e.g. the mayor of Houston is a lesbian.

    Those numbers only represent a fraction of 1% of the populations of those states. The petitions have no chance of going anywhere.

    At some point you start to question whether this is the effect of Fox news etc (Beck, Reilly, Limbaugh) and their serious smear campaigns against Obama or whether this is just the sheer racism of having a black president.

    She is right though, Obama is going to be bad for her personally over the next four years, not just because she's in prison, but because he's a pro-establishment conservative like Romney, just not as bad.

    What's funny is, these secede wankers and crazy people would have been saying 'don't blame the government for your own problems' if Romney had won.

    I just copied the news story, maybe they meant Obama won that part of Arizona. I know he lost Arizona by a massive margin. Maybe they didn't mean Arizona.

    “They’ll go out in first-class mail,” he said. “I don’t expect people to respond to the question. The concept behind this is to see if they are returned. This is a reasonably inexpensive effort by me to settle the question” of whether people travel to Maine communities to vote fraudulently.

    If cards come back as undeliverable, Webster believes it will prove his theory that people travel to Maine to vote fraudulently.

    Oh that again. The Repubs have been whining about voter fraud for ages, when all studies show it's almost non-existent in the US. Basically, the Repubs just don't like anyone voting Democrat.

    Juan Cole has been saying it for years, the violence was reduced (Petreaus took credit for it) not because of a troop surge but because of ethnic cleansing by people like al Mahdi brigade and other shi'ite militias.
