Is this true, or is this perhaps all part and parcel of our Islamic upbringing...................that I wonder.  Thinking hard

Stop thinking BerberElla .. Open a Mosque for ex-Muslims  similar to that American Mixed gender Mosque..

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything
I renounced my faith to become a kafir,
the beloved betrayed me and turned in to  a Muslim

As for the whole 'men can't control themselves' angle, it would offend the fuck out of me if I could be bothered being offended. But then I have been accused of being 'impotent' by a lapdancer-cum-psychology-student because I didn't make a pass at her when we went out to supper together.

Good body, so-so face, little sense of humour, sexually voracious.

I'm not sure she'd ever met a man who didn't want to fuck her. So it followed that I must be impotent.

I cant remember if i was surfing and found it, or saw the video on here,
but there was a muslimah here in the states who was really putting it out
there that she was tired of either being way in the back, or up in a balcony
    during Jummah.

Personally, I didnt have a prob being in the back, cuz I was definitely scoping
the view in front of me  Cheesy  Plus i kept forgetting parts of al fatiah and never
could remember how many fucking rakas to do for what.  The sisters kept
changing it up on me telling "no no! Do FOUR rakas"  "dont listen to her! Do
two, then two, then two"  "oh, sister the truth is you do two, four then two
again"  I was like screw it.  Ill just watch everyone in front of me and stop
    when they do.

    Davids life !!

Dull bits 99%. Vaguely interesting bits 1%, and they're the ones I talk about.

Really interesting people keep it all under their hat. This pisses me off no end because I love hearing about other peoples' lives.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Judaism survived as a living faith precisely because it allowed Liberal and Reform schools to formally breathe away from the Orthodox. That is, Judaism allowed that liberal space to be institutionalised, and allowed a plurality of interpretations to co-exist, even if they disagree, they are still 'Jewish'

Jewish position was very different. When you are constantly fighting against persecution, you don't have much time to also fight with your neighbor because of small difference in faith.
Even if some orthodox Jew wanted to persecute progressive Jew, they would not have the physical means to do so !
Islam is anomalous in this, because no other religion disallows the sharing of the sacred worship space by women and men.

Judaism do. At least some branch of it. I've been very few time to the synagogue, thanks giant pink invisible pasta unicorn, but I've seen the separation between the men and the women part of one of Grenoble's synagogue.

There are some orthodox synagogues and ultra-orthodox schools where that is practised, but that isn't normative. They are the exception that proves the rule. That liberalising impulse allowed reform Judaism to modernise and still be part of Judaism. The mainstream of every major religion allows mixed-congregation worship. Its the other way round in Islam.

You can read the history of Jewish reform and liberalism in a number of ways. The point is it has been achieved, in a way analogous to what these idealists are trying to achieve.
